XP: CDing accessories

any STMs who CD out there have feedback?

i'm going to try CDing and plan on starting with the jillians drawers 21 day newborn trial.

my question is, what else do i need that i should register for and/or buy?

i put a cloth diaper pail on my registery (really no more expensive than a regular pail https://www.amazon.com/Odorless-Cloth-Diaper-Pail-gallon/dp/B0053Y2B6E/ref=br_it_dp_o_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=14YQRPW73CI1P&coliid=IT0OQSRFZR67Q)

what do you think about also registering for/buying:

  • cloth wipes
  • travel wet bags (to keep in diaper bag) (how many and what sizes)
  • cloth wipes
  • CD detergent
  • What about the hose contraption for the toilet

what other accessories do you think i should worry about now?  What could you not live without?

 I appreciate the help!

I dunno if that cloth diaper pail is necessary.  I think a flip lid trash can works ok.  I'm not 100% sure, but I think that you want air to circulate in the can for stink.

I am just going to make my own cloth wipes out of extra receiving blankets I get from my shower.  But regular wash clothes will also work, just not as soft as flannel or fleece.

I ordered my wet bags from Alva.  They were 6 bucks a piece, and they look to be great quality.

I order my cloth detergent from Kelly's closet, but you can order it on cloth diaper website.  I bought Tiny Bubbles, but Rock N Green is also highly recommended.

Im not going to worry about the toilet hose until I work him up to solids.  But you can buy one off of Amazon if you want to order now.

I am by no means an expert, I have learned everything I know from the cloth diaper forum.  They are really great about answering questions, just be sure to read the FAQ's, because that will answer most of them.  Also, you might want to register for some cloth diaper safe butt cream.  Vaseline or Desitin will ruin your dipes.

  • You'll need at least 2 pail liners for your pail.

I would say the stuff on your list is good. You won't need the diaper sprayer, though, until you start solids. Otherwise, it can all go in the wash.

I would say one wet bag would be fine. I have survived with just one for a few years and never really saw the need for two.

My friend had a small sized wet bag to carry already damp/wet wipes in  for her diaper bag. I was always able to keep 3-4 in those regular plastic travel wipes containers though. Either one would work.

I can't really think of anything else you would need. If you are really anal about stains, you could look into CD-friendly stain sprays. ??

  • The #1 accessory on my list would be the diaper sprayer.  We used it from day 1.  I know that BF poo is water soluble, but I prefer to spray mine off completely before throwing them in the pail.  You will want one!  I would register for it.

My diapers have been used for 2 kiddos and don't have any stains at all. They look perfect.  You will need pail liners. I  have a foot pedal stainless trash can that I line with swaddlebees wet bags ( I have 2 and got them both at Jillians drawers).  I use charlie's soap for every day washes and sensi clean for stripping them every once in awhile.  I have about 24 cottonbabies wipes that I got before DS#1.  I love them.  I have travel wet bags, but generally found traveling with cloth to be a bit of a pain so I usually use disposable if we are going to be out all day and need diaper changes.

  • thanks so much, ladies!  this was helpful!

  • Your list looks good, with DD I had 1 small travel wet bag and 1 pail liner. You'll definitely want 2 pail liners though.

The only suggestion I have would be the diaper pail. The step openers work so much better. At some point your LO will become wiggly and want to roll all over. While changing an extra messy diaper it can be a disaster keeping them on the table, the diaper mess contained, and then trying to open the lid to toss in the diaper/wipes.

  • MEh we don't use pail liners, I just spray my trash can out on laundry day.  I know some people just use an old pillow case as a pail liner.

I recommend 2-3 small sized wet bags for outings though.  One to wash and one to keep in the diaper bag.

Also, we use ecos detergent because RnG gave us terrible stink issues and I've heard a lot of people complain about the same issue.

  • Cloth wipes are certainly worth having.  The rest of it I never really used.

I've found that a laundry hamper with lots of air circulation smells less than a diaper pail, however we do leave it in the garage next to the washer and dryer so perhaps we'd feel differently if it were in a bedroom.  We never used travel wet bags, just leftover plastic grocery bags if we were out.  I've never had a diaper sprayer, any poops that didn't shake off usually just go the wash.  We use the ecos detergent because it's cheap and not terribly toxic.
