I had a friend ask me how far overdue would my MW allow me to go. I told her as long as I pass my NST, I can go as long as I wanted. She was absolutely floored that my MW doesnt induce, and in rare occasions has she actually had to direct someone to an OB's care for induction.
So how far overdue is your OB/MW willing to let you go? Are you comfortable with that, or will you insist on earlier/later?

I also had a horrible induction. If I wasnt high risk I would do anything I could to avoid an induction. Ask for nst's, ultrasounds to check on the placenta and babys growth. A due date can be off to 10 days. So if you induce at 38 week baby could actually be under 37 weeks and not ready to come out. Your baby will eventually come out, I promise!! If there is no medical reason why do it.
Also with induction if your body isnt ready it wont work!

I'm having a c-section at 39w, she wouldn't let me wait until 40 b/c of some issues we are already having. If I was trying for a vbac, she would let me go to 41, normal pregnancy, she would let go until 41w5d before intervention.
