Cloth Diapering

How many times for stink

I have washed in RnG, RLR, even bleached the inserts and they always seem to get the funky smell back.  I will take any suggestions to try.

I have hard water and my wash cycle is,

rinse on cold

wash in hot

rinse to or three times

TIA

Re: How many times for stink

  • I had a similar wash routine and problem as you until I stopped all the extra rinses and just run another full wash cycle without detergent.

So much easier to just restart the cycle instead of remembering to turn on all the rinse/spins.

  • We had to up the amount of detergent we used because having hard water required more than is typically recommended for cloth diapers. After adding in a bit more detergent than usual, we then did as the above poster said and ran another full wash cycle without detergent.

  • I also found that doing the first rinse (or regular wash cycle without detergent) on warm made a big difference. I have very hard water, too.
  • Do you line dry? That always seems to help get rid of the stink.

  • Try a new detergent...RNG gave as ammonia and barnyard simultaneously. Don't know how. We use tide with our nasty well water. And try a warm first rinse with a little baking soda.
