Guess what happened yesterday? **I DD'd**

Never know who's lurking :)

Re: Guess what happened yesterday? **I DD'd**

  • That really stinks!  I hope you find a place - I know the frustration of trying to find daycare.  I was shocked when I was put on a wait list when I thought I called early enough.  Luckily LO got into my first choice (DH didn't care).  I will be putting LO in daycare at around 8 weeks.  Financially I can't stay home any longer.

  • that is totally annoying.  i understand your feelings and i get her decision (but she should have figured THAT out before committing).

However, it sounds like your baby will be in a long line of babies who went to day care at 6-8weeks and turned out just fine.  All will be good.

  • I am hoping this doesn't happen to us as we have a close friend that is going to watch LO for us for two months until the spring semester when SO schedule will change.   That stinks but I hope you find something that you like and it is great that you have a positive attitude about it even if you are disappointed.   If it weren't for the family friend LO would be in daycare at 8 weeks and I am with you they are so little and that is sooo scary to me!   Good luck and hugs!

  • Sorry this has happened.  I think that when friends and family watch LO's it can be bad. I never mix business and pleasure- but that is my rule and JMO.

I remember when I first had my first child- I was shocked at prices and waiting lists too- I tell FTM this all the time.  where I live a NB in a daycare is $1200 a month.  I have two children right now in childcare and pay $17,000 a year in childcare.  when we have #4 - I have to see if the numbers make sense to return to work.

.Luckily I have an older child whom is 13 YO and doesnt require child care but still too young to watch our other kids.

  • i'm so sorry she backed out!

we're going to have to put LO in a daycare at about 8 weeks (i go back to work after 6, but DH will have a couple more weeks off)

thankfully the one we chose is close to home, relativly inexpensive for infant care at $600/mo and we found out after we met them that friends take their daughter there and she loves it.

I hate the idea of putting LO in daycare that young, but even after minimizing all expenses and paying off debt we'd still go $700/mo in the hole every month if i don't work and we just can't afford that.  not after working so hard to get out of debt.  if DH gets a job making up the difference i could stay home later, but for now i'm going back at about 30 hours a week.

  • Yup, Taylor will be in infant daycare for 8 hrs a day, starting at 8 weeks. At $60.00 per day, it's enough to make anyone cringe. But we've gotta do what we've gotta do.

  • I am putting my infant in a daycare that I trust fully.  Yet the lady is giving me a discount because I am best friends with her daughter.  Right down the street from me so it'll be a bit easier on gas for me.

  • One of the reasons I stopped looking for work is that I know I wouldn't make enough to cover infant daycare, which from what I see, can creep up toward $2k per month around here. I got my master's degree last May and tried to find a job until January, when morning sickness knocked me out cold and it's still an issue from time to time. If I had a job back then, I am 99% sure I would have had to quit. I couldn't leave my couch and I spent most of weeks 7 through 11 crying.

We realized that even though we were struggling financially, on the offhand chance that I did get a job, it wasn't going to pay enough for me to have anything left after daycare (we'd lose money, even), and I'd have to go back to work immediately, which can put a strain on breastfeeding (although not make it impossible; HUGE props to moms who can work and BF!) so we realized it just wouldn't make sense right now. But if I had a job that paid me enough that I could afford daycare, transportation to work, and still have money left over in my paycheck, I'd absolutely be doing it even with a young baby. I'm not happy that I busted my ass in college for 6 years to earn a degree that would do nothing to help me find a job, but here I am.

  • Thanks, guys.

Unfortunately, we are definitely not in a position where I could stay home.  Honestly, I really enjoy working and don't have the desire to stay at home - I think it would nice for a little while but not something I would want all the time.

The daycare costs here are minute compared to some of the numbers you guys posted - I cannot imagine paying $1200-$2000 per month!  It will be tough, but we will manage.

  • Unless something unexpected happens, my baby will be in daycare at 7 wks.  I MIGHT be able to get mine or DH's mom to watch him for a couple of weeks more, but doubt it.  Neither have been in good health this year.  Much longer than that and we'd lose our place in daycare.

I feel the same about working.  I know I can give my child a better me and better life by working.  I know I wasn't cut out to be a SAHM.  If I had my way, I would work part-time.

That being said.. what is DD?  LOL!

Lol!  Dirty Delete.  I deleted my OP because I was paranoid.  You can look down the column to you left to find the Nest glossary to see what different things mean.
