What do you think of Jetta? Volkswagon?

I am now considering Jenna for my second daughter, but started thinking that Jetta was similar but more unique than Jenna. I have read on some baby name websites that people will think of the Volkswagon Jetta if you named your daughter this, and most people, including the owners of nameberry, seem to discourage the use of this name. What do you think? Is there any history with this name? I don't see how its much different then naming your child Mercedes or Bentley.

 

Edit: Okay, now that Jetta is off the list, what do you think of Jenna? Is it too simple and too 80s? It is the one we were torn between when naming our first daughter, and never considered it for our second until today (5 days before shes due!) I know the NN Jen was way overdone in the 80s/90s, but I still love the simplicity and friendliness about it.

 

Edit: Okay okay so Jetta was a bad idea! Haha Im glad I asked. I too like Genevieve but my problem is I like the NN Jenna with a J but prefer Genevieve to be spelled with a G. I know Genna with a G is fresher but something about the G is just weird to me. Maybe it will grow on me over the next 5 days....

lol I see quite a bit of difference between naming your kid Jetta vs Mercedes or Bentley, actually.  (Not that I'm a fan of any of those names...)

Sorry, I hate all car names. I know someone who named their kid Selica (sp?), and I feel so bad for that poor girl. Please don't name your daughter Jetta. Jenna is a very pretty name, and unique enough!

I would think of the car, 100%. Mercedes was a name long before the car. Not sure of the history of Bentley but I hate it. Also, my name has double T's as well... from my lifelong experience, be advised that it will always be pronounced "Jedda" and not JeTTa".

For me, I immediately thought of the Volkswagon Jetta when I read your post. Even if it isn't any different than naming your child Mercedes or Bentley, I still am not a fan of either or those names. Jetta may be more unique than Jenna, but I do think that most people (at least adults and then eventually her peers when she reaches middle school/high school) will associate it with the car.

VW is the first thing that comes to mind when I hear Jetta. I'd stick with Jenna. Then again, DS1's mn is Benz. It's short for the Hebrew name Benzion ("Son of Zion") after my grandma ("Daughter of G-d") and I love it.

I happen to drive a Jetta. So, yes, this is where my mind went.

Go with Jenna instead.

Jetta is a Dutch name (though pronounced Yeh-tah). Regardless of legitimacy, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who didn't have the car as a first thought, though.

If you want something slightly less common than Jenna, what about Gemma or Jemma?

All I think is car and quite honestly, that's all you are ever going to hear if you name your child that. IF it was not a car, I would kind of like it. The actual sound of the name is cute IMO... but that's not the case. It is a car and only a car.

I'm glad I asked. Funny I never even thought of the car until I read it online. My first thought was the character Jetta on Clifford the Big Red Dog. I had no idea Mercedes was around before the car. Thanks for the info. No worries I won't be naming my child Jetta. Just had no idea how much it would be associated with the car and my husband vetoed it as soon as I mentioned it to him a few minutes ago.

Jetta reminds me of Ramona naming her doll Chevrolet in the Beverly Cleary books.

Jenna is NMS. I have known a few and they were not very nice people so I always associate it with them.

If I met a girl named Jetta, I would think her parents named her after the place where she was conceived...probably on the way to prom.

Stick with Jenna. Or, better yet: Gemma! GL!

Jenna - I think of the porn star (sorry, saw the E true hollywood story and she is very famous amongst men)

Jemma - I think of the girl from the real world (yes, I watch too much TV)

Jessa - I love, sounds like a classic name but not trendy or too popular

I think you should name her Prius.  Or Expedition.  Maybe Windstar.

 

For reals, I like Jenna.  I think you could also work it as a nickname for Jennifer if you wanted to go more traditional.

I guess I'm dating myself but I immediately think of the Misfit character from Jem and the Holograms and not the car. She wasn't very nice but I thought she was cool as a kid and I still like the name - That most people would associate it with a car would bug me though.

Not a fan of Jenna. It just feels dated to me. I like the PP suggestions of Jemma though.
