RE: Metformin- There are some things you can do to ease the stomach pain. Hopefully you'll have a good pharmacist who can counsel you on this further! First, don't start out three times daily or anything crazy like that. Titrate up to the dose. If doc has you doing twice daily, start with 1 for a week or so. You might be able to cut that one in half... I can't remember. I think so. Second, take with a meal. Third, and most importantly: avoid carbs! That's what kills you!

Just wanted to add my 2 cents that while GI side effects are common at the beginning of treatment, most people tolerate metformin quite well. If you have problems, you can talk to your doctor about methods to lessen or treat the side effects, or switching to the ER formulation, which can lessen the side effects.
I know a few people who have had good success with metformin and PCOS, so I have my fingers crossed that it will help you.
