Baby Names

Girl sibset too close?

Hi,

So DD's name is Betsy, which we LOVE.  Our second choice for her was Penelope, nn Penny.  When we found out #2 was a girl also, it was a natural choice to go with Penelope/Penny since we still love the name.

Now that I'm in the home stretch, I am starting to get nervous that Betsy and Penny are too matchy-matchy cutesy together.  Thoughts?  FWIW, I don't think DH would even consider any other name, he's set on Penelope.  I, however, have about 10 other girl names I love....

AK!  Maybe I'm just nervous since DD#2's arrival is so close...

Re: Girl sibset too close?

  • Even though they share the short e vowel and have five letters, they don't rhyme, so you're okay. If you were going with Jenny and Penny? Yes, too close.

  • I think you've got two great names and I don't think they are too matchy!

I totally agree with this. I think they sound nice together, and not too cutesy at all.

  • No, I think they are lovely together. Definitely not too close.
  • Thanks so much ladies, I really appreciate the feedback!  You have made me feel much better.  I have been a bundle of nerves the closer I get to DD#2's arrival, and this must be the most recent manifest :)  I love both names, and I know it would have been a huge battle with DH if we needed to change.  I never thought he would have such strong opinions on his daughters names!

Thanks again.  You all rock Big Smile

  • I think you should stick with Penny. It's lovely and both Betsy and Penny are cute, but also very classic so there's no "cheese factor".

Thanks :) I/we love older classic and uncommon names, my other faves are Lucy (NOT Lucille), Charlotte (too popular though), Molly, Jane, Claire and Matilda. Simple but not all that common :) Good luck with hypothetical #2! LOL. Thanks everyone for the votes of confidence, I feel so much better about our choice :) Now I just can't wait to meet her!

I think they are great together!  Nice choice : ).

    This.

  • Ah, it's fine. Cute names, too.

Things that are aggravating: sibsets of Sara + Anna, Sara + Hannah, etc. My mom daycared two girls named Sara + Anna and we started calling them each other's name or Sanna or Harra; just confusing.
