pain under right breast

I have had flutters off an on through the whole pregnancy, which I know is muscle spasms. However, starting last night, I have a burning pain under my right breast which is even sensitive to the touch on the outside. Muscle stretching ?? Anyone have any ideas ?

Re: pain under right breast

  • I have had more of an ache or discomfort under my right breast with all three pregnancies. If it is your gall bladder it would be stabbing or burning pain especially after eating. Could be your liver all squished and just causing discomfort(this is what mine is). Could be your ribs expanding and just aching and tender which should subside.

Mine has never been senstive to the touch outside, so maybe just the rib expansion?? My babies always like to tuck their feet in this space. As they grow bigger it becomes more uncomfortable.

    Hope you feel better soon.

  • I have the same pain (including sensitivity to touch from the outside), and my doc said it's my gallbladder. The pain can be pretty awful, so I had an ultrasound to make sure that I didn't have gallstones. That didn't appear to be the case but the pain continues. I think it might just be one of those joys of pregnancy that we'll have to deal with for the next few months...

  • It's probably nothing, but you need to call your OB ASAP.

Liver pain presents itself like a stomach ache, but located under your right breast. If you are experiencing liver pain, it could be a sign of HELLP, and you don't have a lot of time.

  • Oh--I've had this, too! Mine isn't pain so much as just  a really freaking feeling. Almost tingling/burning/twitching at the same time. It's on my list to ask my OB about this week.

  • To the person with the gallbladder issue...

do you have to have it removed after delivery or is it just going to go back to normal function once it has more room ?

  • I have this and my Dr. said it's likely my liver and not to worry about it. She said many times the liver gets squished up and moved around so I need to try different sitting and sleeping positions to relieve the pain. It's actually helped. She said you know if it was gall bladder because it would be pain right after you eat, which mine isn't.
