We leave for vacation Saturday morning and I'm trying to pick which carriers to bring along. We will be flying part of the way and will also be on the beach or out and about a few days. Otherwise we will be just hanging around my inlaws. I have a 21 month old son about 25 lbs and a 6 month daughter who is 14 lbs and very petite. These are the carriers i have
Ergo glaxy
Snugly baby ring sling
Moby wrap
Hotsling
The reason I need help is because none of them seem ideal to me. The moby has just so much material and it seems to shift or stretch throughout the day and doesn't stay put well but it's easily pack able. I liked the hotsling when my son was younger because it gave me a good hip carry and was easily packable but he was a little chunkier and filled the sling better than my Daughter does. Ive used it with her but it just doesnt seem as secure as it used to be. Do they stretch put over time? I've tried the ring sling a few times and it just doesn't seem comfortable or secure plus there is all that extra material that drives me nuts. Maybe I'm doing it wrong? It's my leastfavorite. And I just got the ergo today and it seems bulky too. I'm 5'5, 135 lbs with a long torso but fairly petite frame. It seems like the shoulder straps were very bulky and didn't lay down right plus it didn't seem to stay on my hips but wanted to ride up.
I have an aversion to any clothing that is uncomfortable or very bulky and this seems to crossover to my baby carriers. Do I just need more practice or what? I liked the ergo because we could carry either of the kids with it, but i just can't imagine wearing it for a long period. Do I need a smaller hotsling for my daughter? Cut the material off the ring sling? Help! I've got one day to figure it out. And ps, we are taking carry on luggage only, 2 bags for 4 people so packability counts.
Tia!
Re: Help me baby wear
My kids are about the same ages as yours (my son is a little older). We only use the Ergo for my son anymore. He rides on my back and for him it's just like a piggy back ride and for me it's just like a backpack. Try that with your son and see if you like the Ergo for a toddler back carry, it might seem less bulky with a bigger child (also less likely to ride up with his weight).
My daughter and I love the ring sling. She never liked the Moby (though my son did) and I wouldn't recommend it in this heat anyway. You say there's a lot of extra material on your sling, you can always take the tail and tuck it under (like between baby and you under their butt) to get it out of the way if the hanging is bothering you. Getting the fit just right can be challenging. It's important that it's partially off your shoulder or it can get really uncomfortable.
Finally, packability isn't necessarily an issue. You can wear both kids through the airport (thus freeing hands for luggage etc) and the carriers never have to be packed.
