So, I lead my kid into the bathroom for hand washing before lunch and start examining the reason the door won't open all the way (DH's clothes and shoes in a big pile behind door.) I hear the thump/clang/scream and look up to see that Nate has fallen head first into our deep, ceramic bathtub. I guess he hit his head first and then his feet flipped over so he was lying on his back screaming. Thankfully, it was an empty tub. I pick him up and DH comes flying in there. I feel bad because all I did was bite off DH's head about the mess behind the door and basically blaim my inattentiveness on him. It took awhile for it to really show up, but Nate's entire cheek is one big bruise.
My kid also has bruises and scrapes all over his legs. Sigh. We do play outside every day and I don't hover as much as I used to. Does your child look like someone should call CPS too? Is mine just uncoordinated? I feel bad taking him out because people comment - "Oh, what did you do to your head little boy?" - I'm like, I swear it's not my fault! I really do take care of him! I could blame it on daycare during the schoolyear...but now, not so much.
Re: Injuries/mom of the year award...
Oh no poor N! I would have blamed DH too. My LO's shins have quite a few little bruises. I just don't know how she gets them.
Poor Nate!
I know what you mean. DS is really clumsy and is constantly getting bumps and bruises. He currently has a big bruise on his cheek because he got carried away during bubble time at daycare and ran into a bookcase *siiigh*
He scraped his knee 3 times in 1 week, from just tripping while walking. DH and I were even holding his hands one of those times! We looked down and he was bleeding.
We were at Ikea on Sunday and another mom that was nearby just started laughing at DS. He tried sitting in a chair, then fell off it. Then he tried playing with the play kitchen and nearly fell over.
Tuesday night I was at my prenatal yoga class and DH was home with DS. He said they were playing on the floor with DS crawling all over him, etc. He was crawling on the hardwood floors and his hand must have slipped on something and he totally fell mouth-first onto the floor. His mouth was bleeding and he chipped a tiny tiny corner of one of his front teeth - thank goodness it's not very noticeable at all.
Then Wednesday morning DS thought it was great to just wear his bike helmet all over the house. He was wearing it and followed me down the two cement steps from our house into the garage and since his balance was all thrown off he fell and bruised his forehead and scraped his face right under his eye.
My kid's face is just a mess right now!
Poor baby! You paint a very familiar visual - of LO falling & being laid out flat on his back! It happens here, too - the majority of time being when we are standing right next to him watching him. They just have a knack for injuries at this age, I think!
DS fell & scraped his head at the park a few months ago, then he got HFM on his face, then he got qa scrape on his chin at the park, and now he has his dog bite bruise on his arm. It's one thing after the other!
Well, you all have made me feel better! We were at the park this afternoon and there were three other 17 month olds there too. Out of the four, mine was the daredevil climbing the big toys by himself, sliding, jumping off into the wood chip things, etc. The others all kind of toddled around on the ground or sat with their parent. I can kind of see now why mine might be more bruised! Maybe we have a future gymnast on our hands.
Lets see... John has had two black eyes from falling onto toys. He loves to put his head on the carpet- basically giving his forehead constant rug burn. Nicholas has fallen two times and skinned his nose so badly- seriously the first time had just healed and he fell again at my MOMs club Easter party. He also has skinned knees- oh and a black eye from falling into a drawer. They both have little bruises on their legs. Then there is the scratches from their fights- yes they roll around on the ground fighting. Oh and my sister is a social worker for CPS- she always reminds me that she sees much worse all the time and it is obvious that the boys are not abused.
