We don't live near a public cord blood bank, and we decided it was too expensive to privately bank LO's cord blood. But after some searching, I found another public donation option and wanted to let you ladies know about it, too, in case anyone else was looking.
Lifeforce Cryobanks does both private and public cord blood storage. They will take a certain number of public donations a month from those who meet health criteria. The link to the forms to fill out is here: https://cordforlife.lifeforcecryobanks.com/public-donation/requirements.html
The form looks a little long, but it is mostly the questions you get asked if you want to donate blood and a little family history. There are a few places your doc has to sign, too. Hope that helps someone else!
Re: Got accepted for cord blood donation today
I just asked my doctor about donating cord blood today actually. I had done a little research and we didn't feel that we needed to bank it privately but if someone else could benefit from it ...why not?
My research online kind of hit a dead in when my state and hospital didn't show up on the donating websites. :-(
My doc said he hadn't heard of anyone doing this in our area unless they were going to privately bank it and pay for it. He went to ask someone else to make sure and they had the same answer.
I'm kind of bummed because it seems like a waste to me, why not use it for research or to actually help someone...
I'm going to look through that website you posted though as well---thanks!
