This is a name post...

...so if you're getting tired of those, don't read any further! :)

DH and I came across the name Adley the other day. We've both said we like traditional names and were leaning toward something like Abigail or Katherine, but this one we both really liked (which is saying a lot! We haven't agreed on much). Her middle name will be Ellyn after MIL. I just can't decide if it's too different, especially since DD1 is Anna which is very "normal".

So what says TB ladies? Adley Ellyn: horrible, awesome or somewhere in between?

I'm not a fan, sorry. To me it seems incomplete, like it should have been Hadley but you forgot the H.

mmm, cute but nms. Looks like you dropped the H from Hadley. It also is a bit too close to Anna for a sibset. But, I do not like matching letters for sibsets anyway. GL!

  • I hate superfluous y's in names.  I think they're completely unnecessary and a trend that in 20 years will be laughable like "oh, ha, you must've been born in 2011/2012...."

That being said, I like the idea of this name, but think it sounds weird when I say it out loud, like it's missing something.  I like Adley Elaine, but think Ellyn just doesn't flow right.

  • I am horrible with name decisions. If you haven't already, post this on the Baby Names board. They will be happy to share their opinions and give you suggestions as well.

I agree that it looks like Hadley with a letter missing.  It sounds weird to me.

Not a fan, sorry. Adley seems weird to me, I don't like that spelling of Ellyn (unless that's how your MIL's name is spelled, in which case, I'd use it), and Adley Ellyn just doesn't flow well.

On another note, I think Abigail and Katherine are beautiful names!

I actually don't like it either and was planning on spelling it traditionally, but the first thing she said when we told her LO would have her middle name is, "Will you spell it with a y like my name?" So it apparently matters to her, and since we're using the name to honor her we'll spell it the way she does.

I hadn't even thought of it being Hadley minus the H. I guess since all the names we were looking at were traditional Hadley had never been on my radar. That's something to think about. I wonder if everytime she said her name people would think she was saying Hadley.

  • I like Adley. I'm not feeling the Ellyn so much, unless that is how your MIL's name is spelled, too. I like the A+A for the siblings. I think of your three ratings, it gets an 'awesome' from me!

  • I don't like it at all, sorry:( It just doesn't sound good when you say it out loud. Ellyn is nice, but I'm not feeling Adley.

  • I agree with others that Adley sounds like you've forgotten the H in Hadley. Spelling it differently won't solve the problem, either, because it will still sound the same when said aloud. Have you considered Adelaide? It has a similar sound, but is a bit more traditional, like you were looking for.

  • I actually like Adley & I also like it with Anna. I am with the others on the Ellyn though. What about your MIL's middle name? Could you use that?
