painting clay terra cotta pots anyone try this before

I'm going to use terra cotta pots and want to paint them. I only have washable paints at home and don't think that will work Anyone know what type to get from the craft store? I'll be putting cutlery and napkins in them.

This.  Although I usually just paint and then seal after.  I've never had a problem.

If you don't seal first, use a primer (gesso) first to keep the paints from soaking into the pots.
