pre-registering??

I was just wondering if you are planning on pre-registering at the hospital or for STM, if you did this with your first baby, how soon before your due date did you register?  I want to do that, so I have less to do the day I'm admitted, but I'm not sure when it is typically done.

Re: pre-registering??

  • We did it with DD1 around 29ish weeks.  When I came in and my water had broken, it still took them forever to figure everything out.

With DD2 I waited until the last minute (as I did with everything...lol) and ended up going into labor at 35w0d and was 9cm when I got to the hospital.  Since I had been there before, they rushed me up to the room and DH filled out the paperwork (in the room) while I got changed and hooked up. It was actually easier - but they may have just been helping us out since we were in somewhat of a rush.

I guess I'll pre-register with DS, but only because DH had trouble filling out my paperwork and while I was in bed dealing with contractions I was having to help him fill it out.  Ha!  I'd rather not do THAT part again.

  • I did mine at 24ish weeks.  The hospital requested it be done by 20, but I felt that was absurd.

  • We did around 30 weeks when we did the hospital tour too. It was simple. I haven't done it yet but I'm going to call ahead and see if I have to since we'll be at the same hospital with the same doctor so I don't know if I still have to or not.

  • I was asked by my OBGYN practice to preregister at the hospital in the 5th or 6th month, so that is what I've always done.

DH and I married 8 years. Mom of three, stepmom of one.

At my appt. last week, my OB gave me a pre-registration form to fill out and mail in.  She said she usually hands it out at the beginning of the 3rd tri.

  • my ob gave me a folder at the beginning of my pg and in it was my pre-registration packet for the hospital. I filled it out around 15 weeks and sent it in! LOL. Cause if not....I would have forgotten about it.

Plus this is a different hospital from when my other 2 were born, so I figured I would juat go ahead and do it.

My OB asked me if I had done it at my 24 week appointment, and I had literally just done it the day before.

After 22 cycles and 4 failed IUIs, Serafina joined our family through IVF/ICSI, born 8.28.12
Our surprise baby, Juliette, is due 12.8.14!

  • When I registered when I had to get my Rhogam last week (at about 29 1/2 weeks), I asked the lady how do I pre-register if I don't have an 'appointment' (I tried to pre-register for the injection, but when I called, they didn't have me on the schedule, so the lady said I couldn't) - she asked me my due date, typed in some information and said "OK you are pre-registered".  Didn't take long at all!
  • My hospital allows you to preregister online, so I did this a couple months ago when I signed up for my childbirth/parenting class.

My hospital also uses pre-registration as a way to get you to pay your deductible or any co-insurance up front after they verify your insurance (like most OB's do).

  • I'm the person who gives the tours at our hospital, and I was told to tell the tour groups to register NO LATER than 60 days ahead of time.  Our hospital's website has a link to do it online so it's really easy.  I think I registered at around 25 weeks with both pregnancies.

My last appt, I got a slip saying that sometime in the 3rd trimester, the nurses will pre-register me. So one of the up & coming appointments it will be happening. Not sure what that all entails?

    This.

  • I just did mine last week. Last time I had to go in for a few NSTs starting around 30ish weeks - which from what I understand is pretty common -  they do them in L&D (at my hospital at least) so it was nice to have everything already done.

With DD, I was advised by my OB to pre-register around 24-28 weeks, so I went in around 27 weeks or so.

With DS, since my midwife practice was part of the hospital, I didn't have to do anything to "pre-register".  They had electronic access to all of my info that I provided to the midwife practice.

With this LO, I haven't been asked/told to pre-register at all so far.  I printed off the form from online, and will have it with me for my appt on Friday.  But since my OB practice is part of the hospital, I'm assuming the hospital will already have my info (all records are electronic).

My OB and his practice is part of the hospital but we still had to preregister because they are also part of a different hospital (so I had a choice between 2 hospitals).  The hospital did have access to my file, but no reason to look for it or know that I would be deliveryng there without me pre-registering.

I would definately ask at my next appointment to make sure what if anything is required.

  • I did my paperwork at my 26w appt. I remember doing it at an appt with DD too, just not how close to the EDD it was.

I filled out the paperwork to pre-register at my first OB appointment, she wanted to make sure it was done super early apparently :)
  • My hospital allows pre registering no more than 3 months before your due date, so I can just do it now. We're doing the L&D tour tomorrow and I have some questions before I register, mainly about pediatrician selection.
