I really like the idea of sticking with irish names for our family. I like the name Brenna for a girl (still trying to sell DH on that one) and I've always liked Liam for a boy but everyone around here is naming their boys Liam right now. The name Finn has really started to grow on me. It wasn't one I loved right away but I do now. How does it strike you ladies?
Re: Irish names
Nora is also on the top of my list! Dh doesn't care for Colin and the B names are too close to his name. I have a student names Gavin that I don't wish to be reminded of every day : ) Thanks for the suggestions!!
I like both Liam and Finn. I do think Finn is becoming more popular, but perhaps not as popular as Liam currently is. If you find out you're having a boy, you might just want to check out the popularity in your state before making a final decision.
Both great names!
Also love Bridget and Colin, which other posters mentioned...
Brenna and Finn are cute names, just NMS personally. Finn does strike me as trendy and reminds me of the annoying character on Glee (but that show will be over soon, right, and our kids won't even know what it is). In case you're looking for other ideas to throw into the mix:
Two Irish girl's name that are beautiful and still really unique (at least here in the US) are Mara and Shaila. I love both, particularly Shaila, which made it to our "long list" but not our short list.
For boys' names, I'm partial to the old classics Patrick and Daniel myself (especially Patrick -- so classic and, again, underutilized).
Oh, or what about Kiera (girl) and Kieran (boy)? Those seem like they might fit your taste well.
FWIW I like Nora quite a bit more than Brenna.

Love Patrick! Both DH and I have siblings with Patrick as a middle name. I'm not opposed to using it again but he is (I'm working on it). We just had friends who had their first baby and named him Daniel. That is also a favorite. I feel like all the good names are taken in my immediate circle because I am the last to get pregnant!
I love Finn, Cormac, Declan, Sorley, Brady and Nolan (DS' names even though they are surnames and not technically first names the Irish might use).
Girls: Finola, Brigid, Maura, Saoirse, Sorcha, Fiona
Love Brenna and Finn. I like Liam, but right now we have 5 at the preschool where I work, so I'd steer clear if popularity is an issue.
Some Irish names from my list:
Colleen
Delaney
Teagan
Maeve
Lochlan
Seamus
Eamonn
Colin
Tiernan
Tobin
Declan

LOVE the name Maeve!
Obviously I'm partial to Moira & Maeve
I also love Fiona, Aiofe, Neala, & Brigid/Bridget for girls.
For boys:
Owen (I had to talk DH out of the Gaelic spelling), Cormac & Declan are our favs.
I find Brenna to be cute.
Finn does not really do anything for me. I find it pretty trendy, and more a nickname.
Liam really has grown in popularity and so I'm liking it less & less.
I like Finn, best as a nn for Finnegan.
I'm not a fan of Brenna. Mairead is my favorite Irish name, but if you're looking for something easily pronounceable, I also love Maeve.
Finn and Brenna are cute.
I had a rough time picking a name I had a few other Irish names on our list:
Brendan, Eamonn, and Duncan (more Scottish)
I went a different way with girl names, but Brenna is a nice name.
I think there are a ton of Liams and now Finns, as well as Delaney and Maeve for girls. So, although I think Liam is a great name, and better than Finn, if popularity bothers you that might not be the way to go.
We named our boys Shannon and Sullivan. This time around we are considering Sean Patrick for a boy and possibly Maren for a girl. I think Brenna is pretty.
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

I had a student once named Saoirse.
It's pronounced "SEER-Sha" and means "freedom" in gaelic.
I LOVE Saoirse and Sorcha! They're on my list
