The camera for your monitor? I know some put on a dresser or table facing the crib and some place on the wall looking "down" on the baby. Didn't knowif any of you STM's have suggestions or what new moms plan to do. Thanks in advance!
If we get one there is a chest of drawers against the wall at the foot of the crib. Not against the crib (well, it is right now, because we'll slide the crib up a bit so it's more in line with my line of sight while I lay bed; right now it's just out of the way), but we'd put the camera on top of the drawers since it's a great height and not really far from where the crib will be. We have a very small bedroom and we had to do a lot of rearranging to get the crib in there, and it worked out quite well.
We're just undecided on the video monitor for right now since we just have the one bedroom and it'll be a while until the baby is sleeping in the room without at least one of us in there; I'll try to sleep whenever she does. So until she's sleeping for long stretches where DH and I are up and about, we're not really worried about having a video monitor. I am interested in one for the living room though so when she's a bit older and playing, I can (in theory) run to the bathroom or kitchen and still keep an eye on her. Our apartment is long and not open to where you can see room to room.
Ours is mounted on the wall looking down into her crib. I once read that you should position the camera so the only thing that shows up on the monitor is the inside of the crib itself. I think the rationale behind this was something to the tune of if other people pick up the picture on their monitor, there is no way for them to know the layout of the room, where the crib is in relation to windows and doors, etc.

I guess that makes sense but I plan to put ours eventually anyway where I can see more of the room. When I used to baby sit teh toddlers got out of bed to wonder sometimes and would fall asleep on the floor. It was nice to monitor their wondering around the room to see if it was necessary to go in the room.
