Yuck... so sorry! This happens to me occasionally and it's awful. It's definitely acid. Take some Tums and drink water. Try propping up on lots of pillows so you sitting up more, too.
This has happened to me a couple of times and it is so gross! You just wake up wondering why you threw up because you don't feel sick. Then you realize it's the nasty heartburn. I now keep tums by my bed and lots of pillows.
I had this happen last time and it suuuucks! I am so sorry.
I'd sit up for a while and cough as much as you can out then ditto PP's about the pillows. I slept sitting up for about 2 months last time. Luckily it mostly eased up once DS dropped.
I'm on prescription acid reducer (from pregnancy). This coughing is making me stay awake and it's almost 2 and I haven't slept a wink and I'm a sleeper - it sucks! And I have two kids that will want to go to a parade at 8:30 am . . . .
I had GERD horribly for about 4 months...finally had to take prilosec because it was getting so bad. It woud happen ever night, I would wake up almost choking on the bile and then coughing for 10-15 mins, bc it was burning my throat.
Also --- helpful hint to hint to help remove the acide reflux/bile taste from the back of your throat..honey!
I did that once. Your lung mucus will work it out in a little while. Stop coughing, and try clearing your throat instead. Less damaging. Do start taking some pepcid. It helps.
