High-Risk Pregnancy

SCH diagnosed at 6w4d.

I am new to this. I have had two healthy pg during which I worried non stop anyway. Was diagnosed last week in ER with SCH and given 20% chance pg would remain viable. I don't have exact measurements but was told it was covering 50% of the sac and was "large". Had another scan at 7w4d which showed no change in hematoma but baby had grown appropriately. DH is feeling better but I'm still pretty much a nerous wreck.

I haven't been told to do bed rest or take it easy or anything but I have been trying to take it somewhat easy. My IL's have been here from Ireland since the day after the bleed and I have two little ones so hard to take it too easy and never lift anything (pretty sure my kids would count on the do not lift list, I've tried to stop lifting the 4.5 year old if I can avoid it).

Anyway, just looking to talk to some others in the same situation and for any support. We haven't told nay family members but my bf does know, she had to come watch the kids when dh took me to the ER.

Re: SCH diagnosed at 6w4d.

  • Is this usually a quiet board? I see most posts have tons of views but not many responses. Is there somewhere else you'd all recommend trying?

  • I feel like it's not usually this quiet but lately, I know what you mean. I am not familiar with SCH (although I just did a little research before replying to you) ;). I'm sorry to hear this and wish you the best. I want to say someone else posted that they were told they were diagnosed the same condition recently. GL to you!

  • Thanks, JLRHNR.
  • I have had SCH's since around week 8 and they resolve and come back.  However, none have been large like yours.  It was hard because it was early in the pregnancy before we were telling people so it was hard to explain why I couldn't pick things up.  I told my co-workers that I had a painful cyst and also what I told my mom.  Technically, I still had a corpeus luteum cyst from the fertilized egg so I didn't feel that bad about the cover up.

Have you seen your OB or ask to be seen by a MFM/perinatologist?  They will have more experience in this area than an ER and could provide some more insight.

Babycenter does have a board for SCH however it's not the most uplifting.

    Thanks, JLRHNR.

    You're very welcome. :)

  • I see a midwife practice who I have been in contact with. They sent me for the follow up ultrasound. I juststartedthinking about asking for a referral to a specialist in the last few days.

I did find the babycenter board but the oNe and only response I got there was that the only thing that would heal it was rest. Which seems to be to be a debated theory among the medical community but pretty much law over there.

  • I was told I had a sch at 7 weeks. I as ordered on bed rest for one week, pelvic rest for 6 weeks, and no lifting over ten pounds for the duration of the pregnancy.
  • I was diagnosed with an SCH at 20 weeks. I went into labor and lost my son.  It was a horrible experience for me.  I am now 37 weeks with my first daughter.

  • I had an SCH from weeks 5-13.  I was never told how big it was.  I bled large fist sized clots off and on for weeks.  It was terrible.  I assumed every time I went to the bathroom that I had miscarried.  I went in for numerous ultrasounds and every time baby was there with a perfect heartbeat, wiggling away.  My Dr. didn't really give me odds.  It was more just a wait and see situation as there is nothing they can do.  My paperwork did say 'threatened miscarriage' all over it.  I was a nervous wreck.  Then all the sudden it just stopped.  Also, my daughter's premature birth was due to IC not the SCH.

I am new to this board and don't know all the acronyms, what is IC? I'm glad to hear success stories where heavy bleeding doesn't lead to a mc. Thanks for posting.

IC is incompetent cervix.  In a nutshell, my cervix is weak and I dilated painlessly to a 5 without knowing it and had to have an emergency c-section.  SCHs suck!  IC sucks!  I hope you have a good full term outcome!

  • Ugh, so scary! I should have been able to figure out IC, I worried nonstop abut it with number one bc my bf's sister had it and was in hospital on bed rest for like six months bc of it. Then with two I sort of got over it and then ER dr mentioned my cervix was slightly open when I went in for my bleed  two weeks ago and I started worrying about it again despite him telling me that was normal for a third pg. the worrying is probably what is worst for me, I can't turn my brain  off from thinking of all the what if scenarios.
