Does anyone want to recommend their camera for someone that is a photography novice but would love to get into it? I am looking to play around and get some beautiful pics of my family without having to go back to college to be able to turn on the camera! Right now all I use is my iPhone (with the Hipstamatic App when I'm being fancy!) so anything would be an improvement.
Thanks ladies!
Re: s/o photography...
Yes, my sis has the Canon Rebel... I love it!!
Both Canon and Nikon have entry level cameras that are a great. The olympus PEN cameras are great if you want better than a point and shoot, but without the bulk of a Dslr.
I suggest going to the store and playing around. Figure out what fits better in your hand, and what you're most comfortable with - and go from there.

I'd recommend the Canon Rebel T2i to start, and a 50mm 1.8 lens (~$110) to give you some flexibility. My best advice on learning is to read the manual, and just start practicing on different settings to get to know your camera. Shoot in different lighting situations, shoot candids, get a friend to pose a little for you, and have fun!
This is also a great resource for learning:

Same here. And even before my SLR I always had Canons.
