Multiples

anyone have one twin/multiple that is bossy/tattletale?

how do you deal with it? my twins will be 3 this summer. DD is so bossy with her brother (tho not w/ other kids at daycare per the teachers, just him), always telling him what to do, tattling on him, yelling at him to do things her way, etc. If he gets books or trains taken away for something (like biting or tearing books for example) she doesnt let him hear the end of it & constantly reminds him & us "DS doesn't get books tonight, he tore his books!" etc.

We try to say, DD, mommy & daddy will talk to DS about that, you don't need to tell us or him....please don't yell at your brother, it isn't your job to tell your brother what to do, mommy &daddy will take care of that and talk to him, etc. But I think at their age I'm not sure how much gets through.

Tips?

  • Our twins are just turning 2 but I feel DD will definitely be like this as well. She's just so strong willed and DS is so easy going. Yesterday she was really bullying him and pushing him a little and just trying to get between him and nanny. She really does not seem to care when I tell her no or that she shouldn't do something. We haven't instituted time out really yet as I'm not sure they're old enough. But I definitely have a bossy DD as well.

Oh yeah, I definitely have a bossy one. I try to rein him in as much as possible, but I suspect this is just his personality. Next year, they're going to be in separate classes, so I think that will help.

  • Thanks... (peakay are you separating for kindergarten? or are they still going to be in preschool?)

i guess i'll just keep trying. i just hope she doesnt switch to bossing friends b/c no one likes the bossy kid...eek.

  • One of my girls is more assertive (that's the nice word for it, LOL), tending to take things from her sister and run. The other one seems like she's going to be the bossy one/tattle tale, so hopefully they'll just end up canceling each other out.

Unfortunately DD does that to her brother too! AH!

DD is the louder, bossier, more headstrong twin. DS is quieter and much more mellow. We find DD behaves better if we make sure she gets some one on one time with DH or myself.

  • Yep my dd is the tattletale! When I tell her to stop being a tattletale, she says I am not a tattletale I am Lilly!
