Is this name becoming super popular? I really love Lia, but I feel like I've been hearing variations of this name more and more. Our neighbor just had a baby named this (I'm guessing Leah, but not positive). I don't want to have the next Sophia.
I know more adults or older children named Leah (and I do prefer this spelling) than babies. I think it's a beautiful name and I highly doubt it will become the next Sophia.

I have a couple of friends named Leah... but I don't know any youngsters with the name. Unfortunately, there is no way to avoid it becoming too popular. I thought Olivia was unique, and now look at it!

Don't know any young Leah's. Not a big fan of the name by association of older Leah's that i knew. An aquaintance did name her daughter Breah, which i really like.
It's been in the top 30 for the last few years, and before that in the top 100-200 for 50+ years. So I would say that even though it has been steadily popular and is becoming more popular recently, it isn't skyrocketing in popularity like Sophia has. It's a pretty classic name, IMO.
FWIW, I'm Leah, and although there were usually 1, maybe 2 other Leahs in my grade growing up it was never to the point of going by last initial. Now as an adult I very rarely meet another Leah.
Most of the Leahs I know are in their 20s/30s. Some I love but one has completely ruined the name for me, personally! I hadn't heard of it being used as a baby name yet until this year when two of my friends named their daughter's Leah (both used that spelling). Not sure if that means it's gaining in popularity or if it's just a coincidence. The second Leah was just born two days ago and I was actually thinking of how odd it was that I knew two Leahs born this year alone when I knew none last year.

Yup, me too. I actually had 2 other Leah's in my graduating class but we never had any classes together and were in totally different social circles so it was never a big deal. I haven't heard it on a baby, ever! So I love that people on this board are using it! I love it!
