I start my Lupron (my first time) this Friday and am scared to death of doing the injection! I know, its probably nothing really, but my mind is playing evil games with me. So my question is:
Do the injects really hurt/sting?
Do you lay down to do them?
Does ice really help to alleviate the pain?
Apologies in advance if this question has been replayed over and over.
Re: Give it to me straight...
I've never given used Lupron so I'm not sure how it feels but most shots I've had do sting a little. I stand and I've never used ice on an injection site.
Ive been poked a lot of the years do I have no problems doing shots, I've even drawn blood from myself when the nurse couldnt hit the vein. A lot of it is just psyching yourself out of it, you have to do it an once you do it's really not that bad!
Straight up - Lupron is the easiest injection for me by far.
Some people have side effects. This is my third cycle using it, and have never had a single side effect. You won't know until you do them.
I hardly ever feel the injection. Occasionally I've nicked a blood vessel and have a little bleeder, but it's hardly anything. To me, it feels more like a bug bite - a slight pinch, but more an annoyance than painful.
I do all my sub-Q injections in my upper thigh (right below my panty line). I tried doing sub-Q;s in my abdomen and found it to be more painful and more prone to bruising. For me, it was also easier, because I felt steadier (first go round doing injections I felt shaky/dizzy). I feel more in control sitting - and it was important for me to feel in control.
I've only iced a few times, but that was only for IM injections. I never iced for sub-Q injections.
It really is mind over matter - and you can do this!
Good luck!!
ETA - dart the needle in. It hurts more if you slowly slide it in.

Once you get over the first few they become surprisingly easy - just something you do as part of your daily routine!
I didn't have stinging with lupron unless I was unlucky enough to hit a bad spot (happens sometimes)
I stand to do them and grab a nice big hunk of fat on my belly (too much to go around these days) and that hurts less - I also tend to let out a nice big breath as I inject - but that's just me being dramatic.
I've never had to use ice
Good luck with everything - you'll be fine!
Same here. The part where I'm different than Aegis is that I prefer to inject in the abdomen but still try to rotate the injection site.
IVF #2 w/ ICSI: ER 5/8 9 eggs retrieved 8 eggs fertilized; ET 5/13 2 transferred 1 frozen; BETA #1: 1,197; U/S scheduled for 6/11-TWINS!
Lupron is the easiest injection. I actually have DH give it to me at the back of my arm, it really feels like a bug bite, unless you hit a blood vessel. The other injections are hit or miss, Menopur will sting but you can handle it. It goes away fairly quickly. Just close your eyes and take a couple deep breaths and it is fine again.
I was worried about the injections too but they really are not that bad and just become part of your everyday routine.
