We are having a tough, tough time deciding on a name for DS #2 and I'll be 37 weeks on Monday. We like Sawyer, it's easy to spell and to pronounce, but it's still under 150 on the SSA list. We always try to think of what teasing references can come from any name, and all we can come up with is Tom Sawyer, which isn't so bad. His middle name is definitely James after DH's life-long best friends. I have never heard of anyone named Sawyer and wondered what thoughts you all might have about it.
Re: Sawyer?
I really like the name Sawyer and I think Sawyer James sounds perfect together!
I was going to say the same, but I like the name Sawyer James.
Okay. While Lost has not been on the TV for quite some time, it had a huge cult following to it. Sawyer was a character on the show. His real name was James.
I just point that out to you because you are bound to get people asking you if you were a fan of the show.
Over all it is not a bad name.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

My DS is Sawyer, so I might be biased....
But I think it's a great name and we actually get lots of compliments on it. It's not common at all (where we live, at least), and yes, easy to spell and pronounce. When he was first born we got some comments about the show Lost, which apparently had a character named Sawyer. Or people would joke about using the 'nickname' Tom (referencing Tom Sawyer), but never anything negative or that really bothered DH and me.
Sawyer is a great name. Sawyer James sounds great, too.

I must be a part of the cult...because I immediately had this thought!!! However, I think it's a very nice name though!
I'm slow. It took me a few minutes to figure out why this would be a bad combination, and now I am cracking up. Yeah, that might not work.
I like Sawyer a lot but I will echo the warning about it going into the girl column. My friend just had a baby and named her Sawyer Lynn.
Sawyer James sounds nice!

No more TTC for us. We are done, and at peace, as a family of 4.

I like it better as a girl's name.
I think it's a great choice!
(But I WAS/is an American Lit. major/Twain fan too! )
That is incredibly sad.
I also think of Sawyer/James from Lost but it can't be a bad thing to be associated with Josh Holloway, who is dreamy. Cute name!
I agree.
I agree!
Thanks, everyone! We have decided to go for it. He finally has a name and I'm SO glad. I appreciate all the input, since sometimes you can't see all of the possible bad connotations for yourself.
The Soy Sauce nn cracks me up because earlier today we were talking about what kind of nn could come from Sawyer. And I said (jokingly) that I'd probably call him Soyburger.
