Anyone see "Birth Moms" on TLC last night?

I caught the last half of it.  I'm not sure what to think & am kind of glad DH was not there to watch it with me.  He has enough negative thoughts about adoption & this show didn't exactly show the birth moms in a positive light.

I saw it. It was kind of disturbing. Showed these pregnant ladies smoking and drinking.

Honestly though, we met with an adoption agency earlier this year and they told us the same thing... that about 50% of their moms smoke and that alot of them do drugs. I was asked which drugs i'd be comfortable with. Uh, none. I know not all adoptions are like this, and feel like this show was kind of skewed, but it was definitely uncomfortable to watch. Especially knowing that this is our next step if IVF fails.

  • I don't think it is representative of all birth moms but as the PP mentioned, there are BMs who are more responsible and those who are not. The one chick who ordered the margarita seemed to be proud that she was drinking and smoking.  I guess the doctor had his hands tied because he can't force the chick to stop smoking he can only advise and hope she makes the right decision. I hope she was up front with the adopted families.

As for the one BM who couldn't decide on a family kind of freaked me out because I don't want someone trashing my family profile.  I understand she wanted to find the right family for her baby but it looked like she was so uncomfortable with her decision.

  • I watched, and it really interests me, but I hope that it doesn't cast a bad light on all adoptions or on birth moms and adoptive families. I also got the impression some were playing it up way too much.
2 IVFs & 1 FET. Welcome home baby girl!
