What flavor are/did you have for LOs smash cake? Did you make (or have someone else make) sugar free, dairy free, etc. versions? I have everything planned for our menu, including when I'm making everything, who's helping with what, etc. however the smash cake is the last part!
TIA!

Re: Smash Cake Question
I will be giving her a regular cupcake/piece of cake, not sugar free, etc. It's one day and a big one at that. IMO, a little sugar isn't going to kill the kid.
ETA: I plan on making rainbow cupcakes...not sure if I'll do them bright or pastel colors.
I'm doing a banana cake w/cream cheese frosting. Hers will be just sweetened w/the banana, no sugar, but real frosting. I'm using the recipe in the BLW cookbook.
The cupcakes I'm making for everyone else will have the same frosting and banana cake but with sugar.
I still need to find a recipe for the cupcakes/frosting.
This!
Thanks everyone! I was planning on doing a regular vanilla cake (same as the vanilla cupcakes I'm making), but I had a few people giving me grief that I'm not doing healthier versions, and a few people questioning why I'm not doing chocolate since it'll look like dirt and it's a caterpillar party!
I never thought of chocolate, and I don't know why I'm so hesitant to do chocolate. SIL is having a chocolate cake for her DDs party in a few weeks.
I think the chocolate cake is a cute idea so that it looks like dirt!
FYI - not sure if you're a Costco member or have Costco near you...but I was scoping out their cake decoration options (because we'll be getting a cake from there for one of her parties and they're soooooooooo good) and one of the options is a caterpillar. The cakes are really really good and are a bargain at only $17 for a sheet cake!
ETA: found a picture of someone's
Funny, I thought I was on top of everything caterpillar and it never crossed my mind to have chocolate cupcakes for dirt. Hmmmmm.

My Blog: Decorate This
For the dessert I'm actually doing:
Vanilla Cupcakes
Chocolate Cupcakes (both in green liners with red frosting)
Smash Cake (still figuring out flavor and decorations)
little dirt cakes with gummy "caterpillars" in those small clear plastic cups people use at parties for wine!
Ice Cream bar with cherries (for cherry pie), sprinkles, chocolate sauces, salted caramel sauce and maybe crushed oreos if I have any left from the dirt cake that I don't eat!)
ETA: And lollipops that will also sort of act as favors!
Costco is 100% without a doubt my favorite cake! I love the white chocolate cheesecake filling and could survive on it if possible! That cake is super cute though - makes me kind of reconsider not having a cake and just having cupcakes, mini dirt cake and ice cream!

We are going to do the pinterest inspired caterpillar cupcakes. But the head will be red cupcakes as well and he will smash one of those. We have a large number of people coming so it seemed like the easiest and cleanest option since we will be outside at a park.
Althougth the dirt cakes sound so adorable. How will you make the dirt?

alternating layers of crushed oreos and chocolate pudding/cream cheese/sugar/butter. Easiest most delicious dessert ever!! I usually make it with vanilla pudding for one layer, and chocolate pudding for the other, but I think for this I'll do all chocolate so it'll look like mud and dirt!
We had it made, it was chocolate inside. I loved his cake. We asked her to limit the sugar and had it made dairy free because of his allergies, although we have since started him on WCM and all seems to be going well.
