Clomid and TTC Qs

Hello,

This is my second time on Clomid bc I have PCOS.  I took clomid on CD5-9 and today is CD13.

My hotflashes have been outrageous for about a day now.   I was wondering if the hotflashes were symptoms of ovulation or that ovulation is coming in a couple of days?!   Also- my first time on clomid i had terrible cramps and my breasts hurt just from a shirt.  I have not had any of those symptoms.  Is it normal for symptoms to be different from month to month.  With my 1st round i started my cycle on Jan5 and i got my period exactly on feb5.  Bc I have PCOS I NEVER have a regular period without provera, but since it started on its own, my dr said that It was bc I probably DID ovulate. Which is a good thing.

My Dr told me not to worry about taking my BBT or even using ovulation tests as clomid drugs dont work with the tests.  I have tried to figure out the CM egglike stuff... but I am new to TTC and I do not get it.

My husband has a medium sperm count, its not high but its not too low.  We are using pre-seed lubrication as it is safe with sperm and I am elevating my hips for 30 min.  After i have waited 30 minutes I go to the bathroom and some stuff comes out and then laying around more comes out... is this okay?  I cant lay around all day.

I know this is a lot of information and there are not really many questions... I guess I would like some advice and to see if everything seems to be accurate or normal.  Any kind of help will be wonderful!

 Thanks

I can't answer any of your questions, but I wanted to let you know that you're not alone.  I've not been diagnosed with pcos but it sounds like my body acts similarly to yours.  Just take a deep breath.

I'd call your Ob/Gyn with these questions.  I know that it is normal for there to be discharge.  I wouldn't worry too much about that.

I know I'm not much help, but I'm in the boat right next to you.  Good luck.

Uh, first off PP - no offense, but don't offer incorrect advice. She shouldn't be asking these questions to an OB, but rather an RE.

    1. Are you going to an RE? It doesn't sound like it....your doctor should be taking blood tests and doing monitoring to tell if you in fact did ovulate. There shouldn't be a lot of guessing involved.

     2. Also, you need to leave physics class behind. Elevating your hips after sex doesn't work. Sperm gets into your cervix and while some comes out, the necessary sperm to get your pregnant stays there (so for god sake, pee after sex and don't give yourself a UTI).

    3. Clomid does cause hot flashes. It is what it is - does not mean ovulation is coming. Just a side effect. You can still use ovulation tests with Clomid, but usually when you're being monitored, there's no need to take BBT.

Lastly, if you want to be part of the board I suggest an introduction and lurking a little as well..... GL.

    1) Hotflashes are a side effect of clomid.  So no, it's not a sign of ovulation.  Are you being monitored in the middle of the cycle to see how many follies are growing? When they are the right size for ovulation? If the drug worked at all?  If it worked too well and you have a risk of HOM?  If it thinned your lining too much for implantation? Etc.  These are all some of the reason's why a RE monitors during a treatment cycle.

    2) No you do not have to lay around after sex.  The good sperm swim past your cervix and will not "fall out".  What you are seeing is seminal fluid (plus also possibly some pre seed, and your cervical mucus if you were turned on and brought to orgasm).

And finally based on this statement you made:   Bc I have PCOS I NEVER have a regular period without provera, but since it started on its own, my dr said that It was bc I probably DID ovulate. Which is a good thing.

It appears you are working with an OBGYN that did not do mid cycle monitoring as well as did not do a P4 test to check your progesterone after ovulation.  If this cycle does not work, you really should see an RE so that you can be properly checked throughout your cycle.  What they learn during those monitoring sessions helps guide better treatment for you, and protects your health.

My RE encourages charting, tells me to use OPKs and I have 4-7 appointments this month for BW and transvag us. They look at my follies growing, we don't guess. Please see an RE.

I had hot flashes my first round of clomid. None the 2nd. Same dosage both times. Are you bring monitored? Meaning are you having ultrasounds to see if your follies are developing? My doc who is NOT An RE has me come in on my cycle to do an ultrasound to check for cysts before starting clomid and again closer to my ovulation day to see iff I have developed follies.

Clomid has a life time limit and if you're not being monitored then you don't truly know if it's working for you. Call your doc office and demand the proper ultrasounds and blood work or start researching Reproductive Endocrinologist in your area.

First things first, I don't want to give you any "incorrect" information, but I can share my personal opinion and experience.

I have been on and off Clomid for about a year now and I swear each month I feel like my symptoms change. I was experience breast tenderness before but not so much anymore. Now I have been fighting nausea and some pretty extreme hotflashes. I used to have very irregular cycles as well and now since I have been on Clomid they are right on every month.

I still track my BMT. It doesn't hurt anything and if I'm wasting my time oh well. Actually, mine seems to match pretty well but I have heard some say otherwise. I don't use OPK anymore either. I had used to, but my BMT, predicted ovualtion, and OPK all  matched so I just stopped using those. Timed intercourse is our primary method. We try to have intercoarse about every other day around the predicted ovualtion time, actually even before and after. Sperm lives inside for quit some time, just google it if your bored and you get get the exact information on it. I would tell you what I have heard or seen from research but I would want to give you any "incorrect" info. I don't elevate b/c my hubby thinks I am already insane about this stuff and b/c generally they do say there are so many active sperms and so on. There are no prooven stats on it to show whether it works or not. I know alot of people who have/do and believe in it. Like they say, it never hurts! I just wouldn't worry about laying around all day for it. The stuff that comes out after, and continues to leak out, is normal and doesn't mean it's not working or anything.

Everything sounds pretty normal, in my opinion. The only thing I would recommend to you is to schedule an appt with an RE. I wish I would have long ago but was listening to my OB to "wait and see if the Clomid does anything". I feel like I wasted some valuable time dealing with the OB when I should have already been seeing an RE. The thing is we don't know these things (well I don't and it's my first time TTC) and we should be able to trust and listen to our OB.

No need for an introduction for me! I don't mind at all. I am new to the board and I never gave an intro. I guess I didn't know there where rules to these things. I just try to share my experience with others and in return have others do the same. Glad you joined and keep us up to date on how everything goes.....GL:)

I have been on Clomid for about a year now and

I stopped listening after the bold.  What the everlovingfcvk are you thinking?? This is so incredibly stupid I can't form a complete thought. There is generally a LIFETIME max of six cycles for Clomid for a reason, FFS.

Wow, that's rude! I had a CP in between and was taken off and then put back on later. I have only listened to what my Dr tells me. That wasn't the point and didn't feel I needed to go into full detail. Calm down there! That reminds me, there are a lot of symptoms you might exp. majority is mood swings aka being very bitchy. Plus watch out for the people who think they know it all on here, they generally are the ones that are wrond. I like to call them WEB MD self diagnosers. Have a great day! :)

You shouldn't be on Clomid for an entire year.  Google it if you're board after intercorse.

Um, did you see my sig? Yeah. Not on Clomid so thanks for that. Just bc you don't like my response does not make me bitchy. And I don't have "generally wrong WebMD self diagnoser syndrome". I have an actual fertility specialist (as do dozens of other women here) who have said repeatedly that there is a lifetime max of Clomid (generally six cycles, although many docs recommend even fewer than that) because Clomid can thin your lining to the point where it cannot sustain a pregnancy, and it can cause ovarian cysts and OHSS and even severe irreversible vision complications.

It's not candy, and if you've been on it for a year you really DO need to do some Googling to learn about the meds you have been taking since you're blindly following your doctor- and then find a doc who has some training in the meds he is prescribing for you bc yours doesn't know what he's doing.

Your other posts say that you've already dealt with cysts from clomid, and that it took your doc a year before she even tested your progesterone - those are red flags that you need to find a new care provider and be your own advocate.

Hi Lilmamma, you look new here.  Welcome. Most people put some summary of their diagnosis and past treatment in their sig so that others know what they're dealing with when they respond to posts.  It is also polite and encouraged to make an introductory post.

I'm not debating you. I am telling you you're wrong. There's nothing to argue here and I'm pretty sure NQB and others agree with me. Either you are doing things with your body that are downright dangerous or your posts lack so much clarity that we can't figure out what your treatment cycles actually are.

That is great to know and thank you for that! This is all very new to me. I recently joined d/t frusteration w/my OB and I felt like I needed a place where I could go and meet new, friendly people who can share their info, ask questions, and learn a few things from not be judged on what is right or wrong. This is my first time TTC and has been very challenging for me.

I seen people signatures on here. Need to play around and get to know how this works....if I even decide this is something I want to do. Doesn't seem like a good start. One bad apple sure does ruin the bunch! Thank you for your welcome and I look fwd to hearing more from you and sharing:)

My hotflashes have been outrageous for about a day now.   I was wondering if the hotflashes were symptoms of ovulation or that ovulation is coming in a couple of days?!  Hotflashes are a typical side effect of Clomid.  I only got them while on the pill though, not after I was finished with them.

Also- my first time on clomid i had terrible cramps and my breasts hurt just from a shirt.  I have not had any of those symptoms.  Is it normal for symptoms to be different from month to month.  I have only done one cycle so far, but this question is asked frequently and most girls say yes.

My Dr told me not to worry about taking my BBT or even using ovulation tests as clomid drugs dont work with the tests.  I have tried to figure out the CM egglike stuff... but I am new to TTC and I do not get it. Are you not doing a trigger shot?  Monitoring?  Your doc should be doing bloodwork and ultrasounds to see when you are gearing up to ovulate...no guessing or CM checking needed.

I am ashamed to admit I laid around for like 10 min this last cycle, but you def dont have to...old wive's tale for sure.  People have been having babies forever and I doubt they all do headstands after sex.

Whoa. We know what we're talking about because we educate ourselves on the medical procedures and medications we take. Any simple google search can tell you about the dangers, side effects, and warnings about Clomid. It's not our fault you didn't take the tme to do research for yourself.

lilmammahungerford, I don't think this is going to work out for you.  The ladies here are very knowledgeable and willing to share their experiences, but if you don't want to hear what they have to say then why did you bother posting in the first place?   Did you lurk before you posted?  Did you read the FAQ's at the top of the board?  Obviously not.  This is generally a very close knit group, and we don't need your kind here.

Life Lessons 101:  don't call people b!tchy or any other name while copping a huge attitude, and then expect people to support and encourage you.  It's not going to happen.

You might want to consider changing your signature also. The Bump's ticker is absolutely worthless. There are better sites with charting software that will actually give you useful info.
