Help! petite maternity clothes?

I'm 5'1", was 113 before I got pregnant, and am now 126 at 5 months! (random ?: is that too heavy for where I am??)   So where in the world do I find affordable, petite maternity clothes?!?  Honestly, I was hoping to be that cute pregnant lady that just got this cute bump but that is the opposite of from what it is turning out to be!  I look like the Michelin man! (Of course, we are all our own harshest critics, but I feel so nasty and fat!)  And I am just now to the point where absolutely none of my clothes fit, fit comfortably, or fit well.  I feel like such a whiner but I honestly do not know where to go! And I would like to try clothes on, so online is out of the question.

  • I'm about the same height as you, but at around 135lbs. I've liked Motherhood Maternity for jeans...they carry petites. (And your weight is totally fine for where you are, btw!) I'm not a huge fan of their tops, mostly because I'm cheap and pretty much just wear tees most of the time, and Old Navy is good for those. (Not all ONs have a maternity section, though, so it just depends what's near you.)

I found Motherhood had a good selection for petites.  The lady was helpful and I tried every thing on and was surprised I got perfect fits.

  • I'm 5'2" and around 135 and have been finding great clothes at Old Navy.  I know you're looking to try clothes on but their return process is really easy and, so far, I have found their sizes (based on their size chart for maternity clothes) are pretty true to size. Target had a few nice essentials, but not a great selection overall. I did find great shorts though. Good luck!

  • I'm only 5' and so far I had good luck with Old Navy and Gap ankle length.  Gap is not usually all that cheap, but they are good quality jeans and I only planned on buy 1 or 2 pairs, so I want them to last!  Also, the Loft has a petite section, on line only, also not cheap, BUT they are always having 40% sales so you just have to keep checking their page.  Good luck, I feel your frustration

  • Thank you ladies! This certainly helps!!! And good info on ON & MH. I will certainly look into them.  I wish I had the budget for a few great key pieces, as I'm sure we all do! But it's so hard to spend any amount of money on clothes you know you will only be in for a relatively short period of time!

    YAY Petite mamas!!

  • I really feel you on finding petite budget friendly clothes. Old Navy has been very useful and although GAP can be a splurge, they have awesome sales. I also hear H &M is good for maternity wear, but I haven't tried any of their clothes on for myself.

Personally, I find splurging at least on two pairs of jeans you feel good in is well worth it. You will wear them a lot over the next 5 months and if you have more than one kid, they don't go out of style.

I'm about the exact same size as you and I have had good luck at Gap, Old Navy, and Motherhood, all of which have petite/short sizes.

I also think your weight is fine.  I'm 26 weeks and my weight today was 135.  I think it was about 126 at 5 months.

  • I'm very petite & I've found that just buying roomier, flowier styles of clothing in a size or two larger than I'd normally buy works well a lot of the time (maxi dresses, those "hippie" kind of shirts that are looser fitting toward the bottom, comfy skirts with a stretchy waistband, etc).

I'm normally an XXS and generally buy a S now in things like that, that aren't really "maternity." Target also has a decent maternity section, but I haven't tried pants - just dresses. Usually Target pants are too long for me, but so are Old Navy, etc. - I have really short legs. Last time around, I got several pair of short length pants at Mimi Maternity (I think that's the cheaper component of Motherhood? Can't remember - that may not even still exist). But I figure for summer, I'll be more comfortable in skirts and dresses this time around.

  • I'm just about your size, little taller but weight wise in the same boat.

For tops so far I have done Old Navy & Gap and have been happy with the results.

I didn't fit well into maternity bottoms, so I went and bought some drawstring stretchy capris, as well as drawstring shorts..  They work great!

  • Your weight sounds fine. If you started out on the thin side it's fine to put on a little more weight than the recommended amount by the end. I love the Liz Lange maternity stretchy tops at Target and I was able to find a few petite pants at motherhood. Well the pants fit but their jeans were always too roomy. Try some leggings and long stretchy tops/tunics. Maybe try buying some summer dresses (non-maternity) and just go up a size.

  • I'm 5'1" and bought my maternity pants from Target.com. On the site you can buy Liz Lange Maternity pants in reg, long or short. The short fit me nicely. You can return purchases made at Target.com easily in a Target store. I'm happy with them.
