December 2012 Moms

If I have a boy, I'm naming him Lillian.

I am so damn sick of people naming their girls with a boy name. I love the name Aslan, but it's too feminine now because people name their girls Aslynn/Azlyn/Aslin and so I can't use it. I love Quinn for a boy, but now it's feminine. I love Addison (which, btw, means SON OF Adam) but now it's a girl name. A big fluck you to the people naming their kids these days.

Well, In my 10 years working in schools I have had boy students named Courtney, Leslie, Dawn and Torrance. In HS one of my friends fathers was named Jody or Jodi.

  • Since Courtney, Leslie and Torrance all started as boy names, this pleases me.

That makes sense since they were all Jrs. I had no idea that were originally male names.
  • My daughter's name is Avery. Definitely used to be a boys name, but I like it. I think it's because girls will eventually take over the world - starting one name at a time. No boys names are safe ....

  • I totally agree! Thankfully we chose Reese for our Mn for Connor cause now it's going girl. I also like Rory but I see every other day on bb board people was to nm their daughter Rory from the beautiful Aurora. I will say it took us 9 months to get to Connor so I'm in no naming rush.

Hahahaha. I'm actually a fan of the degendering of names. Maybe it's because when I was little I always wanted to be one of those girls with a cool male nickname, like Sam on Who's the Boss. I would not be opposed to a boy named Lil ;)

  • All I can think of is the Johnny Cash song "A Boy Named Sue".  My dad has an Aunt Phil and an Uncle Babe and I always avoided having to address them because I thought the names were mixed up.  Def a fan of keeping boy names for boys and girl names for girls!

  • To be fair, Aisling/Aislin is an Irish female name.

But I agree. I freaking hate when people give their daughters boys names. Boys have already lost (for the most part) Ashley, Meredith, Courtney, Kelly and a few others. There are plenty of feminine yet strong names out there to choose from, why steal from the boys?

I love etymology so it hurts my brain when people give their daughters names like Addison, too, Clarissa. Jeebus, people, look up the meaning of the name!
