I had to veto a name

Ok, so to understand that I'm not 100% crazy, know that my SO and I are perpetual students.

We are STUDYING our 100,000 names book.

The way we're choosing to name our LO is this:
-Go through all 100,000 names, choose ones that are uncommon but appealing to us
-Compile a list of said names
-Divide list into first names and middle names
-Pair all first names with as many middle names as possible, providing the names sound good together
-Eliminate names that don't grow on us

During this process, we learned that SO likes the name Ayla (pronounced eye-lah).  He also likes Capri.  He wanted to put them together.

I am not naming my daughter Aisle of Capri.

  • Haha that's too funny!  I would have vetoed too!
  • What about "Blanket" I am sure you would love to name your child that one!  tehehe

  • This is probably the first of many vetos! Naming a baby is a huge deal. You have to live with your decision forever and so do they!

We did a similar process in baby name searching.

    - Went through the book and we each marked every single name we liked and then put them on a spreadsheet.

    - We found this website where it gives you practice sentences to see if you like the way the name sounds, narrowed a few down.

    - Had a final list of possible names which we would go over every single day for a month, the names we didn't get sick of moved on.

     - We each did a bracket (like for March Madness) one for girls and one for boys, and had the names go up against each other and then the winner of that round goes on to the next round.

    - The final four of each bracket (boys and girls) were our final choices.

It was very fun and a VERY long process.

And you were absolutely correct in choosing to veto that name.

  • I cheat. I just use grand parents names until I run out.

It's nice to know that someone else did something similar.  We get weird looks from family and friends when we tell them what we're doing.  We're considering handing out "ballots" with our top names at the baby shower, just to see how well they each go over with close friends and family

I like this idea...my DH loves March Madness... I bet he would enjoy doing this! Do you remember the website with the practice sentences?

Also...Ayla of Capri had to go! Good Veto!
