December 2012 Moms

I think I really want a girl.

When I was pregnant the first time I really wanted a boy (of course, I really wanted a healthy baby above all).  I never even entertained the thought of having a girl.  I just really wanted a boy, and I KNEW it would be.

I have always said I wanted all boys.  Teenage girls are idiots, and I didn't want to deal with it.  I think I'm changing my mind.  I want a girl.  I want the mother-daughter bond.  I think about what a JERK of a teenager I could be.  I know I'll have to get through that with my own daughter.  I also know, that on the other side is a really great adult relationship.  I want that.

Anyone else hoping for one or the other?  What is your reason?

Re: I think I really want a girl.

  • The first time I didn't have a clue as to what I thought it would be and didn't really care so much.  I got a girl.  This time I feel like it's a boy.  My pregnancy is totally different than with DD.  Hopefully, it's not just wishful thinking.  I would love to be able to experience both daughter things and son things.

  • We are hoping for a girl. She would be the first granddaughter in the family. Lots of grandsons already. Of course we will be delighted just to have a healthy baby!

I really want a little boy for the reason you listed above, but i'll be happy as long as the baby is happy and healthy

  • I always wanted a boy first, I have an older brother and like the dynamic of the protective older brother for my kids. Now that I'm actually pregnant, I don't care as long as it's a healthy baby!
  • I know that this is likely our last and I would love the opportunity to raise a boy, but really, I can only think about healthy.

  • I want a girl since I'll be on my own (most likely) and it just seems easier to be a single mom with a girl than a boy.  Plus, I'm a girly girl (like pink and green preppy) and would have so much fun dressing a baby girl).  But, oddly enough, I already have boy bedding picked out that I'd be really excited about too, so I guess it can go either way.

  • We both really wanted a boy the 1st time.  Now I can't imagine her being anything but a girl.  Since we are having twins I would love to have 1 of each so Kinsley has a brother and a sister.  But knowing how much it didn't matter the 1st time I can honestly say it doesn't matter to me as long as they are healthy.

I obviously, like you said, want a healthy baby no matter what, but I hope for a girl. I already have a boy, and although while I love doing things with him and I know he will always be my baby, I too would love to have that mother daughter bond. I lost my mother when I was young and I definitely miss having that connection, my mother was my absolute best friend!
  • already have one of each so i honestly dont care one way or the other!

  • Im hoping for a boy, but the bins of clothes DD has outgrown remind me it'd be way more practical if it was another girl. Im torn. I would love her to have a sister for that special bond. But Id love a boy for DH. He loves DD so much and would totally hunt and all that with her if she wanted, but I know he would love a son for all that too. So it will be great either way but the pros to eah I guess keep me from a clear preference right now. And of course the standard as long as its healthy.

  • Teenage boys are idiots too....my brother sure gave my parents a run for their money:) I think he caused more headaches and worry than all the girls in my family combined. I think the teenage years will be rough no matter the gender.

I see the joys in having either one. My DH thinks it's going to be a girl but I think inside he secretly wants a little boy.

My husband and his brother are lucky to be alive with all the idiot stunts they pulled as teenagers. I, on the other hand, was practically a saint. I'm the eldest of 5 girls, so I'd love a girl! I've always seen myself with a girl as my first born. But I will be happy as long as I have a healthy baby in my arms come december!

  • Not going to lie, i really want a girl this time. I've always pictured myself with 2 kids, 1 boy and 1 girl. Of course I'll be happy either way, but a girl can hope.

  • I'm slightly hoping for another boy.  We already have the clothes, and it'd be nice for my son to have a playmate.  And... DH will be more willing to try for #3 if we don't already have one of each.

  • I'd really like at least 1 girl right now. My parents have just my 2 boys and grandchildren and they are amazing but there's just not enough girls. (me and my mom, thats it). My husband has 3 siblings and they ALL have boys. Between the 4 of them there are 9, count them 9! GRANDSONS!!! Both his parents have since passed, but his mom always wanted a granddaughter. So I'd like to have some girls for his sides sake too!

  • I lean towards a boy because there is way too much estrogen in my family. And so far, all the cousins in my generation have had girls. My father loves me and my sister but I know he would love a little boy to carry on the family. My husband is a car guy and would love a little car buddy. But, it goes without saying (but I will say it anyway,) no matter what...healthy is the most important factor!

i REALLY want a girl.  mainly b/c my whole family is girls, and i wouldn't have a clue how to raise a boy.  of course, a healthy baby is what we're really after, so we'll be overjoyed with either one.

but i do really want a girl, which is why we plan on finding out the sex ahead of time, so if its a boy i can get used to the idea (and read a lot of books about parenting boys!) until he arrives.

  • I don't really care. I always wanted a girl, and now my DD is almost one. This time, I don't have a preference, but out of convenience, a girl would be much easier. Boys are wilder, and I already have the clothes!

  • I go back and forth. I just want a healthy baby more than anything. For some reason, ever since seeing the ultrasound at 9wks, I can only think of it as a boy. DH wants a boy.

  • You'd think after this many, we wouldn't care either way (which, essentially we don't cause I really just want a successful pregnancy & a healthy baby at the end), but we're hoping for a girl to even things out. We already have 3 boys and 2 girls. I keep seeing all the picture frames, jewelry, etc for sisters, and so much of it has 3 sisters on it. It just makes me long a bit for that for my girls.

As everyone else said, I will be thrilled as long as I have a healthy baby. If I could choose though, I'd love to have a girl first. Always pictured myself as having a girl first for some reason. I guess it's because both DH and I come from families that went girl, boy, girl. We'd love a distribution like that. I guess we'll see!

(plus I knit an unreasonable amount and I want to knit ridiculous frilly pink things)
