IVF Girls come in

Hi Girls, i have a quick question. What do you tell your boss/employer about IVF and how you will need to be out of work or late to work due to multiple doctors appointments and ER and ET, how after ET you will have to be off your feet for a couple days. How did you word this and how did you tell them? Did you meet with them face to face, Did you send an email or letter? What is the proper way to describe how your going to be out due to IVF?

I actually decided not to tell my boss.  I am able to schedule all of my u/s, and bw appts before work so I won't have to miss for that.  For the ER and ET I just plan to call in sick.  It might raise an eyebrow or two since I rarely miss and will be 'sick' twice within a week, but that's what I've decided to do.

I'm also pretty sure I will take the day of my beta off - whatever the result I know I don't want to get that call at work.

I just put in a request for time off and didn't tell them anything. I work part time, so it wasn't as big of a deal.

Whether you tell them in person or via email I think depends on how comfortable you feel. I wouldn't know what to say without just being honest and saying it how it is.

I was also lucky enough to schedule monitoring before work.  I didn't tell my boss either.  I took a vacation day for ER, and told them I was having a "medical procedure" for ET that required a couple days of bed rest.  They legally cannot ask you for any more details than that.  I have a super cool boss though. He is always really flexible about time off, and I was able to work from home for the bed rest part.

I met with my supervisor face to face.  She was very understanding and sympathetic to our cause.  I was so nervous to tell her but in the end, I am glad I did because I don't want them to think I am ditching work for nothing!  I basically told her the next few months are going to be hectic and crazy and I will have to be in and out of the office due to fertility treatments.  She didn't ask which one or why, so that was nice.

I just told my boss everything that's going on. I'm a nurse and so she gets it more than a lot of other people do. Also she had to know because there are certain patients I can't take care of during this time.

I had a meeting with my boss one afternoon and told him everything. I'm a pretty open person anyway and my boss is very easy to talk to and understanding.

I have been very open with my boss from the beginning, so I told her in one of our updates that I would need 2 days for ET and 2 days for ER, and I would not know what the dates were until probably the day before.   If you aren't comfortable, you can simply say you have to have a couple minor procedures, and there will be quite a few appts leading up to it.  They have no right to know any more than that.

I just took vacation days and on the ET I told them I had a medical proc done. Legally they cant ask you for details, so it all depends on how much info you want to give them. Best of luck to you!

I haven't decided yet if I will tell my boss but I do feel comfortable with him so I might do that. Luckily for me I work from home, have a flex schedule, so the u/s and b/w shouldn't be too much of a hassle. I plan to take a vacation day on ER and ET.
