When would you teach new address?

DS1 is in preschool and will be having his second kindergarten readiness evaluation soon (first was halfway through the year). We just found out that we will be moving this summer before school starts and he will need to do a separate screening and placement for kindergarten there (different school district). He knows his current address and phone number (we will keep the same number since we don't have a landline) and will be able to tell them during his second evaluation. I don't want to confuse him by starting to teach him the new address yet but I do think that he should know it before his Kindergarten screening at the other school. When would you start teaching it to him? Should I explain to them that he knew our current address but may not know his new one before his screening?

It may not be that big of a deal but I just don't want it to be an issue.

Re: When would you teach new address?

  • I wouldn't teach him the new address until you move. Isn't the point of children knowing their address and phone to help in case they are lost? At any rate, it should only take a couple of days to learn the new one.

  • Not being able to recite his address at K screening won't do anything on his eval.  It's not a big deal.  They are trying to identify really big problems and even most of those aren't addressed at this point.

Not until you move and honestly, why does the kindergarten readiness have anything to do with this?  This was not something that was asked or anything even like it when my DD's had their screens.

Full name, phone number, address, and  parents names were all part of his kindergarten readiness evaluation that they did halfway through the year and the teachers had sent home a paper stating that they should be able to tell each of these things by their final evaluation.

Thanks everyone. I had been thinking of this being something that he needed to know academically and not as a safety issue. I won't introduce it to him until we actually move.
