Low Blood Sugar

(Sorry for the back-to-back posts, I'm scatterbrained)

Before I was pregnant, if I went too long without eating, I'd start to have signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia (shaky, slight dizziness, etc) that gradually got worse the longer I didn't eat something (I'm not diabetic, by the way). Now that I'm pregnant, sometimes I don't even go that long between meals/snacks, and those symptoms will hit and hit fast - within five minutes or less of the symptoms starting, I'll be super shaky and dizzy.

Anybody else experience this?

  • Something similar, and I have never had a history of low blood sugar or anything. But I get shaky and light headed without enough food. I have learned to munch on stuff all day. A couple times of those symptoms freaked me out enough!

  • try eatting 6 small meals a day.  It will balance out your sugar.  If you have carbs go for slow burning carbs that will stick to your belly longer.

  • Also, I didn't realize this, but hydration is a key player here too. If you have low blood sugar but you aren't diabetic, you may also have low blood pressure, and it is key to stay hydrated to prevent blood pressure fluctuations that will make you want to pass out/throw up/die.

  • I do. In fact, I swear I wrote this post! I'm feeling a little light headed right now and I just ate a snack 5 minutes ago!

Before I was pregnant, all I had to do was eat 3 regular meals a day and my low blood sugar wasn't a problem but now it seems inevitable no matter what I do.

Not sure what to do to make it more controllable....

This keeps happening to me too.  I need to eat something every 1.5-2 hours or so to keep myself level and not shaky/dizzy/nauseous.  It can be annoying but I figure there's nothing I can do.  I am trying to keep the snacks healthy.

This. In fact, because you are in the early stages of pregnancy, YOU DO have low blood pressure, and this is causing your symptoms. Hydrate often!
