Twins conceived at different times?

Ok so I know this is far fetched, but at my appt last week my twins measured 1 week apart - 7w6d and 6w6d. I know this is really early for them to be such a different size. My doctor mentioned the very slim possibility that they could have actually been conceived a few days apart. When I think back there were 2 times, 5 days apart before I knew I was pregnant when I had 1 slight spot that could have been implantation bleeding.

I tried to do some research, but everything says this is very rare and usually only happens in some species of animals. I guess I hold hope to this theory as maybe being true because it would provide a reason how my twins could be a week apart in size and both be healthy. Did anyone else have this happen?

My stepfather used to work for Job & Family Services and he told me about a women who had 1 black baby and 1 white baby.  She had sex with 2 different men in one night.  That's all I got for you though.  lol

That being said, I'm sorry - I don't know anything about this - but I guess it sounds plausible??

The national geographic multiple pregnancy documentary mentions that this is possible.... but I don't know that there's any way you could ever prove it other than having two different fathers.  It can happen though

I asked my doc this because ours have always measured a few days apart (it's varied throughout the preg. from only 1 day to 7 days). My husband and I know we conceieved on a long weekend vaca. but honestly it could have been any one of the four days...;) So we wondered if we could have conceived each on a different day...

 Our doc said while it is "possible" he said it is by far more likely that we conceived at the same time, the babies just measure slightly different.

They told us this too.  But they also told us tht they could be semi-identical...  Does it really matter, no, but it's interesting. 

BTW don't worry about size discordance until they are more than 20% difference in theire sizes for their gestation.

Thanks all! My doctor was  cautious about us getting too excited since they have been a whole week apart at two consecutive appts, but I can't help but feel like there is a lot of hope since there are two strong heart beats.

My girlfriend conceived identical twin girls one week before conceiving her son.  I don't remember the exact details, but she was on meds and had a million appointments.  After going in the first time and the doc said she was pg with twins, she went back for another appointment 1 weeks later and there was one more in there:)  Ironically the boy was born first, so he is technically older.  Neat huh?

The babies are now 16 months and adorable!
