S/O Waiting to vote

I can't even imagine a 3+ hour line to vote.  Do other states not have as many polling places as we do in my area?  My polling place encompasses maybe a 4 block radius.  My sister recently moved 7 blocks away from her old apartment and her polling place changed.  Even if everyone went at the same time, I can't imagine more than a 10 minute wait.  What's the deal?

  • I think a lot of it also has to do with the time of day you go.  I'm sure before work, lunch and after work are crazy times.

  • I've never had to wait over 15 minutes.  But we live in a very rural area and don't have too many people at each polling place.  I'm in Southwest VA BTW.

  • It all depends on the state, the $$ they have to spend, the election judges they have and all that jazz.  There is a ton that goes into organizing an election and it's a HUGE PITA.  But it's an important PITA. Wink
  • I live in a very populated county.  There's a website that lists the wait times.  the shortest wait time I've seen for one place is 30 min. which is rare.  The rest range from 90 min. to over 2 hours.  I waited 1 hr. 45 min. This weekend the wait times were 6 hours at some sites.
  • I waited 45min. on Fri. to vote.  Previous years it was 5 or 10 min.  But I didnt go at lunch time on a Friday in previous years either.  Jacksonville, Florida had problems with the ballots when the early voting began so those that went the 1st day waited 2 hrs I think.
