Stretch mark prevention advice anyone??

This is my first post, although I have read many and you ladies are a very good source for information and calming me down!!!

As a first timer, I have been really thinking about when to start using & what I should start using for stretch marks because before you know it they are going to appear...any one picked theirs yet?

I'm thinking BioOil but wonder what others are choosing...

  • My friend swears by a brand called Mamma Mio (Tummy Rub and Stretch Mark Oil) It is pricey, but she used it since the beginning and has no stretch marks at all!

Yes  I used Palmers last time.  I have stretch marks.  Unfortunately if you are going to get them - you will get them no matter what you put on your tummy.

  • If you're genetically prone, there's nothing you can do to prevent them.  Did your mom have them?  If so, you probably will, too.  Cocoa butter, lotion, oil, etc., can make it less itchy/painful (maybe speed the discoloration of them, too?), but that stuff won't prevent them - it's all in the genes.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

With my first pregnancy I used every stretch mark cream and lotion I could get my hands on and I still got them..if you are prone to get them then you will get them.

    Yes

My computer doesn't like pop up boxes otherwise i'd add another thumbs up.  No amount of lotion will help you, it's genetic.

  • Yes it is genetic.  I used a lot of different ones last time and have hundreds of strecth marks.  My mom and sister got a lot of them too.  I can tell you that these little babies we are growing are worth every one!  :)

  • I didn't get stretch marks until around 7 or 8 months with DS.  I used Palmers and didn't feel like it did anything.  Stretch marks are pretty much unavoidable if you are genetically prone.  That being said, I used BIOOIL after I delivered to calm the redness in my new stripes.  It did an amazing job at lightening them.  I highly recommend bio oil.

  • I just used regular unscented lotion. I didn't get stretch marks, but neither did my mom, grandma or great grandma. It has everything to do with genetics and nothing to do with the product you use. I used it because my belly itched so bad that I wanted to rip it off.

I feel like the whole "it's genetic" thing has been firmly answered.

I'm just using some regular lotion daily after showers to try to minimize any impending itching.
