Adoption

Went "baby shopping with my Mom! :) (Small AW inside!)

My mom and I didn't always see "eye to eye" with my IF struggles and I felt that she was not very supportive of my attempts to have a family. I went thru some dark days in our relationship because I thought she did not think I would be a good mom. Turns out , she was afraid for my health, as I am  in my 40's ( started IF struggle in my 30's however :( .....) and she was very nervous.

When we told my parents a few months ago we were going to adopt, I didnt really expect a great reaction, but was happily surprised that they are estatic!!! My parents have on e grandchild and can't wait to be grandparents again!  I honestly, am still in shock, but my relationship with my mom has had some ups and downs. I adore her and we are really close, she's just very hard on my sometimes, so when she took me "baby shopping" this weekend, it was like a dream come true!!!

My parents live 2 hours away so just to be together to shop at all, for anything, is a treat, but when she asked if she could buy us our stroller/carseat, I could not turn her down! I had not purchased a single thing and only got a room painted and flooring done in there prior to our HS.

We went to Baby Depot at the Burlington Coat Factory in my hometown ( what a great little find!!) It was WAY more personal than the Big Baby stores. I got such personal attention and everyone was so helpful. Not one person flinched when I said I was adopting when asked  my "due date". They just kept congratulating me and wishing me the best!! It was So nice to finally have my turn at being happy!

So mom sprung for the Graco Travel System that is a carseat and stroller! It's blue and brown and just cute enough for my taste and not too cute for my husband! He loved it! Mom also got some necessities, like bath blankets and washclothes, onsies and hooded bath towels, all with little embroidered ducks! Very cute! Then she blew me away when I showed her the monitor I was interested in, with a color video screen and  she threw that in the cart, too!!!

All in all, it was a great day! I never thought this day would come, but here we go!!!!

  • Congrats on finding new reasons to bond with your Mother and with each fun experience like this - old "wounds" will heal.

With our adoption, my mother was 100% more supportive than I imagined she would be. She knitted, made a custom baby book, shopped, etc... she became super Grandma - even after already having 3 grandkids!
