Echocardiogram

I have an echocardiogram scheduled for my twins tomorrow - can anyone who has had one tell me what to expect?  Is it just like a regular ultrasound concentrating on the hearts or is it different?  Just curious/nervous for tomorrow!  TIA!

Re: Echocardiogram

  • It's almost exactly like a regular u/s. They focus on the heart and it is quite a bit longer than a regular u/s (they look at all the vessels, chambers, etc),but pretty much the same. Good luck!

  • I had one done for this little one... it was exactly like a regular ultrasound except most of the time was spent focusing on the heart. It was really cool to get to see everything... the tech that did mine was awesome and told me what she was looking at and what the different colors on the screen meant. They also went ahead and took babies measurements while they were at it and for us she tried to see if it was a boy or a girl but baby didn't want to cooperate.

  • Basically, it's just a really, really long u/s. mine was about three hours long. It was pretty cool, actually, because it was such a high powered machine and we saw so much detail.

Good luck, I hope all goes well :)

  • Update in case anyone is curious:  Both of our twins have healthy hearts.  One is measuring exactly on my due date at 1lb,8oz and the other is two days behind at 1lb,6 oz.  Huge relief for me - now we just wait!  13.5 weeks left!
