vbac?

pregnant with #2 and had a scheduled c-section (grrr) with #1.

i would really love to deliver #2 vaginally...you will all probably laugh, but i feel like i was cheated out of the real birth experience. and with a toddler, i would love a faster recovery than last time.

curious to know your thoughts out there?

Re: vbac?

  • There are many people that have successful VBACs and there are many people that aren't eligible.  This is something you need to talk to your medical professionals about.

    Why did you have a c/s first time?  For me I was past due and even after 2 days of pit I never got past 5 cm.  My doctor would not do VBACs, but he would refer out if someone wanted to.  We ultimately decided that I was not a candidate for one.

    I'm not sure that a vaginal is necessarily a quicker recovery though.  I was able to care for my children quickly after they were born.

  • My Ob ok'ed me trying for a VBAC. With Lo #1 I had an emergency c-section for fetal distress (cord wrapped around his neck), so he said that, plus how I healed made me a good candidate. I also feel like a missed something, but thats mostly because I was already at 6 cm and had been in labor for a while when I needed the c-section. So I feel like I have unfinished business.

  • I plan to talk to my Dr. about this I was just curious for real life examples!

    {And feared I was too early on to post on the VBAC board!}

     I had a c/s because I was told macrosomia {based on u/s measurements + my fundal height} and the dr. feared based on my pelvic proportions, LO's head would never make it through. In hindsight, my son was 8lbs 2oz and I should have given myself the chance instead of be scared into a c/s. My incision was tiny and low {hubby is a surgeon so he made sure the attending cut & stitched!}...

    I guess we shall see what the Dr. thinks.

  • i felt the same way dont worry, in fact i cried for a whole month about it especially when watching the video that DH made in the room. unfortunetly my pelvic bones are too narrow and unable to deliver normally but i plan to talk to my dr about making this delivery a happy one for us..i too didnt get to hold DD for 2 hours and barely saw her while they cleaned her up and all. the meds made me sleepy and i felt alot of pain they ended up completely knocking me out :(

    I haven't yet spoke with my dr about it (I plan to at my first appt on the 31st), but I'm slowing convincing myself that a RCS is the way to go.  I too felt like I 'missed out' by not giving birth vaginally, BUT I know in my heart that it was the only safe way for DS to be born (I was induced due to HBP, and being overdue, after 18 hrs of labor I was stuck at 4 or 5 (I can't remember), DSs heart wasn't tolerating my contractions, I was developing an infection in my ute, and it turned out DS had his cord around his neck twice).
    With this one I'm already considered high risk (due to hypertension prior to pregnancy), and my babies will only be 16 months apart (I'm not sure if that is long enough for my incisions to heal properly enough to attempt a VBAC), and I've heard/read that while RCS is more risky for mom it is safer for baby.  I'm all about doing the right/safe thing for my child.  And from what I understand for me that is looking like a RCS.  But every woman and pregnancy is different!  I wish you luck in making your decision and hope your dr is on board with whatever you decide!

    From the information you have provided here it sounds like you would be a great candidate!

  • I'm hoping to have a VBAC. I had my youngest almost 3 years ago through and emergency c-sec, so I'm hopping that I've healed right and gave my body enough rest.
