My Smell Aversion...

Hi December Mommies!.

I just had to come in and tell this tale. I had lunch today from Jason?s Deli. My Potato was good but it really didn?t hit the spot. Anyway, I make it back to work and they are popping popcorn. And it automatically made me sick to my stomach.

My boss walked around the corner and was like, the look on her face is not good.  I sit in an open area so I sat in my bosses office for a few minutes with the door close but of course, people always need something?

The smell of the popcorn from the machine, lingers. Eventually, I lost my lunch.

9 bucks down the toilet?literally.

They pop popcorn every single day? I do not know what I am going to do beside run outside or hide out in my bosses office.

Any smell aversions got you mommies down?

  • Ah! That's no fun. I had a problem with those steamed diet meals the DH ate all last pregnancy. So far I'm lucky. I hope yours gets over quickly though!

  • I have a coworker who I'm pretty sure doesn't own deodorant.  That gets me every time and there aren't many unoffensive ways to bring up the subject to her.  That, and french fries.  I can't stand the smell...

  • i work in a kitchen - which isn't the best job when pregnant!

So far, I've managed to "hide" my aversions at work, no one at work knows about the baby yet.

Anyway! I can't stand the smell of bacon or sauteed veggies (onions, peppers, etc). These used to be two of my favorite smells.

  • I don't have a specific one, but I started noticing how certain rooms in our place smelled. Not necessarily stinky, but how all of the smells in the room combine. That sounds like I am a crazy person.

Anyway - I put air fresheners all over the apartment to make every room smell like vanilla. So far, I am much happier breathing the air in our place.

  • Bleh someone burned popcorn today and I was dry heaving so I know what you mean.  A lot of smells make me nauseous now.  It depends on the day.  Sadly, the smell of onions and garlic - which I used to put in 90% of the stuff I cook it seems - makes me gag now.

  • Does anyone else HATE the smell of their own home?  I went on a trip this past weekend and was excited to get away from my house!  I was dreading coming back home and as soon as I walked in the door I got sick!  I've always loved the smell of my house and am going to throw out all my air fresheners and "stinky" (although usually good stinky) things!  I have 2 big dogs and need something to keep the house smelling nice, but it's just the weirdest things that make me sick.

Also, I currently hate the smell of my laundry detergent/fabric softener.  What's horrible is that things I washed weeks ago and haven't worn yet are going to smell like the soap I hate!  The smell of my bedding literally makes me sick.

I am currently in love with lemons and grass.  I actually wanted to eat grass the other day because the neighbor was mowing and it smelled good.  I have pretty much been sucking on lemons all day long because it's the only thing that makes me feel better!

Omg you made me feel better - read my post above! I hate how our apartment smells so I put tons of air fresheners everywhere. Thank you for making me realize this isn't me turning into a crazy person, but just a pregnant person. Pheeewww!

  • I can't stand the smell of my husband's cologne! It's been killing me and I used to love it!

  • I have several smell aversions, but thankfully they are things that SHOULD smell bad. My cat has a habit of not covering her poo in the litterbox, and the smell of fresh feces wafts through our house until someone scoops it out (DH's job for the next seven months!). Rotting food smells either in the trash or in the sink are a major trigger for me, too. Thankfully DH and I have always had an arrangement where I do the cooking if he does the dishes, and he's pretty good about doing them on a regular basis.

  • I am only 6.5 weeks but I'm not having any smell aversions yet!  I have a few times tried to drink a cup of (decaf) coffee and it tasted awful, and I normally love coffee, but that's the extent of any aversion. I guess I should consider myself lucky.  :)

  • Aww man that sounds awful, so sorry you literally lost your lunch!

My big peeve lately has been dog food, and giving our dog his meds. He's on a bunch of pills right now that on their own smell nasty, but I also give them to him in pill pocket treats which have a really strong meaty dog food smell. It's really gross and I gag every time!

  • The smell of the pool and hot tub here at the hotel is making me wanna toss my cookies.. Every time I go out to the bathroom I have to deal with that horrid smell.  It smells like my skin is going to melt off from all the bleach in there. :(

YES, this. I think my house stinks and I can't pinpoint what it is. And I'm repulsed by air freshener, so that's not helping either.

And...I nearly lost it over popcorn the other day, too. I work in a retail store, and our backroom is itty bitty. A coworker microwaved popcorn. Then she held it out and offered the offending popcorn to me. I nearly hurled. I thanked her, but declined because "I'm pretty sure I have a stomach bug."

  • DD's poopy diapers.  And let me tell you, I am milking this one.  Payback to DH for the 1000's of times he didn't change a diaper.

And cologne period.  My co worker wears AXE and it quite literally makes me ill.
