What does a 1 yr old girl want for her birthday?

No idea what to do get my friend's baby girl and when I asked she said, "Oh just whatever!"

I have no idea what's appropriate for a 1 year old.. I would say spending cap of $50 or so... help?!

I'd say a book and a toy (12+ mos.) I LOVE getting books for my little one!

OR, a cute outfit from Gymboree, size 12-18 mos, and a book.

I agree with the books idea ....just be sure to include a gift receipt if possible, in case they already have one of the books you choose.

Clothing is always nice but be careful with sizing ....DD is in the 90th percentile for height and she doesn't always wear the size that corresponds to her age because of how long she is.  

I always look on Amazon.com at the top gifts for specific ages and sometimes just pick a toy from there based on good reviews.

I don't have a girl but I would say books and clothes are the best gifts.  DS's 1st birthday is coming up and I am hoping we don't get a ton of toys.  He still plays with all of the toys from Christmas and I don't think he will be growing out of them soon.

ETA: I would NOT get clothing.  Sizing is iffy (DD is already growing out of 12 mo sizes) and we have clothing out the wazoo.  Books are always welcome.

hi i have a baby girl she will be 1 yr oldd on the 20th of july i dont know what 2 get her 4 her b-day i have 3 yr old 4 his frist b-day i got him a play house at babys r us. she has a lot of toys that my son had when he was a baby so dont know what 2 get her.....

I disagree with the books suggestion for one reason - we're running out of room to put them all!  There is one caveat to this - if you find a book that "fits" the family - go for it!  A friend of mine found a Star Wars ABC book - we're nerds and thought this was awesome.  Someone else found a tri-lingual book (English, French, and Spanish), which is awesome because we're teaching LO all three of those languages.  For clothes, just call your friend and ask what size LO is in.  Most of my friends did that whether or not they bought clothes.  DD's favorite gifts?  The Fisher Price popper lawn mower and the shaker eggs from a musical instrument set.  Mommy's favorites?  The xylophone shaped like a tiger and a coat that I wish I was small enough to fit in!
