Have any of you had to give up on names that you had liked for long time, due to the last name you acquired once married?
I used to dream of naming my daughter, if I had one, Alexandra or Elizabeth, but I married a guy with a really long last name, so we are trying to keep the first & middle names pretty sort. Don't want the poor kid to run out of boxes when filling out forms.![]()
I also love the name Lily, but it just doesn't sound right with my last name.
Re: Giving up on names
DH and I absolutely fell in love with the name Emma. For awhile we didn't even consider any other girl names. Then I realized that Emma has been in the top 3 girl names for the last few years. That doesn't bother DH, but it really bothers me, so we're kind of on the fence about it right now.
I also told him right off the bat - no names that end in s. Our last name begins with an s, and I don't want the poor kid to have a name with no space in the middle. For example - Linus Smith (just the first names that came to mind). No one is going to say Linus Smith, they're going to say Linusmith.
Kind of. We originally thought of naming a girl Ella Elizabeth after our two grandmas but I realized that her initials would then be "EW". Seeing as kids these days torment and tease for the silliest of reasons, we decided against that and added Audrey to the name making it Audrey Elizabeth Ella. Yes, it will be long, but at least the longer parts are a middle name unlike my last name (I'm not married.... yet) which is Nunnemaker-Robinson.
I have always loved the name Kelly, but our last name is similar to Clarkson, so DH vetoed it. I don't think anyone would associate our child with her, though.
We also won't pick a name that rhymes, like Mark. Whatever names we choose need to flow, too.
It would have been much easier to pick a name to go with my maiden name, that's certain! My maiden name was longer, but didn't rhyme with anything and sounds good with almost any name.
PAIF and SAIF welcome. IVF questions welcome, too.
