UTI - anyone else?

So with DS I had a UTI every time the dr office sent a urine sample to the lab to be tested.  I honestly lost count how many I had and they finally put me on an antibiotic for the rest of my pregnancy (5-6 weeks) as a preventative measure.
So this morning when I got a call from the nurse at my dr's office I wasn't surprised at all when she said I had another one and she even commented "I'm sure you're not surprised".  I had told her last week at my appt that I had a feeling they would find one.  Not because I have symptoms but because of how many I had with DS, and never had symptoms.  Well the only symptom that I possibly have/had was going to the bathroom more often.... which can easily be attributed to pregnancy.
So here we go again - I'm glad that I don't have the symptoms, but I kind of wish that I did so I would know when something was wrong.  Instead I'm constantly worried that I have one and don't know it.  I plan on asking my dr when I see her for my 1st appt at the end of May if we can be more proactive about testing for them.
Anyone else in the no symptom UTI boat with me?

Re: UTI - anyone else?

  • Me! I have never had a UTI (even with my first pregnancy) but after my first appt they called me to let me know I had one.  Boo!  No symptoms other than what I thought were normal pregnancy symptoms.

  • I only had a few symptoms with mine. I also have a yeast infection on top of it so most of my symptoms were from that. Loads of fun! hah

  • I've never had (or been aware of having) a UTI when I wasn't pregnant.  So it was a shock to me when they told me I had one with DS.  Because of my history when pregnant I wasn't surprised at all this time around.
mrsheatherparks - I had a yeast infection from the antibiotic they gave me for my first UTI (it wasn't macrobid), and it was my first yeast infection.  Needless to say I was NOT excited about the rest of the pregnancy LOL.  Fortunately for the most part the rest of that pregnancy was relatively easy.  I'm hoping for the same with this one.

  • in the same boat - after the appointment where they took the urine culture, I was called and told there's a "very very very slight" infection (antibiotics prescribed for 5 days) but I have absolutely 0 symptoms, and never had symptoms of UTIs in the past either... I hope it doesn't turn into a chronic issue during this pregnancy...

  • My first appt. I was popped with one as well... I have had a few in my life and only once did I know in advance... usually it's the dr who tells me.... not looking forward to the possibility of them being chronic the whole pregnancy though!

  • I have utis more often than not. I usually don't notice until it moves on to my kidneys :-/ so through both pregnancies they were watching close. I was told it had to do with the tube the urine goes through is shorter than average.
  • Same exact thing happened to me!  I had never had one before and imagined that they were really uncomfortable so when the doctor told me I had one I was a little confused.  Glad to see its pretty common.
