How do you lay your LO down?

I know that in should be putting DS down for naps and bedtime awake but drowsy, and I have tried but it results in arms and legs flailing and him waking up again. How did you ladies get your LO's to go sown still parially awake and teach themselves to go to sleep? Do you stand beside their crib once you lay them down? Nighttime is better for us cause we have a bedtime routine, but naps are horrible. The only way I have a chance to get him to sleep is if I hold him till he is completely out cold and then lay him down. Even then his naps lately have only been 30mins tops, whereas he used to nap for 2-3 hours before.

Have you tried swaddling?  We did the drowsy but awake, but they were swaddled.  And honestly, half the time they fall asleep in our arms while we're feeding them their bottle.  We've also noticed much shorter naps lately, but I figure that has to do with them getting older and having more awake time.

We used to swaddled but he started breaking out after about 3weeks old. Then we moved to a sleep sack with a Velcro swaddled. That worked well but he outgrew the sleep sack part at 6 weeks and I couldn't find a bigger one with the Velcro swaddler feature. I was also worried that he would never learn to sleep without beiing swaddled. I'm just not sire what to try next, but I want my good napper back!:(

SwaddleMe does make a large size, though I'm not sure what size that fits up until.  People on other boards have said good things about the Magic Sleep Suit, though we haven't used that.  We still use swaddles for them.  At some point we'll stop using them, but they still startle themselves with their hands when they're free.  I don't use them for naps when we're around during the day on the weekends, but I know my mom still swaddles them for naps during the week.  It's hard because I think about how I sleep and I love being snuggled in blankets.  With babies we're not supposed to have blankets on them so if they're not swaddled then they're just laying there with nothing over them?  I'm not saying they'll be cold or anything, but I would hate sleeping with nothing on me so why would I expect them to sleep with nothing on them?  I don't know what we'll do when they outgrow their swaddles.

For nighttime I put LO down partially awake, swaddled under the arms, and on his back. For naps I put him unswaddled on his stomach, already asleep. It's the only way I can get him to sleep 2 hours during the day.

At night, are you swaddling with a regular blanket, or a swaddle blanket?

We're doing tummy sleeping at naps too, because his moro reflex wakes him up within minutes otherwise. For some reason at night he does fine on his back though. He was doing really well with the way you do it, but in the last day or 2 he's decided naps are over-rated...i really want my 2 hour naps back!
