Babies are amazing

So yesterday was my baby shower with my side of the family. I am notoriously not a huge fan of events where I am the center of attention (my wedding shower and other shower caused me horrible anxiety) so I convinced my Mom that this should be a co-ed shower for 3 reasons 1) take the attention off me 2) DH really wanted to be involved in some of the pre-baby festivities 3) I wanted an excuse to get my Mom's family all in the same room.

Back-story: My mom has 3 siblings and since the death of my grandparents they have all pretty much stopped talking to each other and it's impossible to get them all into the same room.

Well yesterday THEY ALL CAME TO THE SHOWER!!!! I was so excited, I have not had all of my aunts and uncles in the same room for a family event for several years. I felt so blessed and overwhelmed that they all came to celebrate this little life growing inside of me. I was so happy, I didn't care that it rained and that we ran out of places for people to sit. It just felt amazing to have all of my family in one place.

I know we all vent about annoying family members and ILs, ect a lot here on this board but how has your baby brought your family together?

I must say that since I fell pregnant, the relationship between me and my stepfather, as well as my DH & mom has improved so much. My stepdad INSISTED on making me a dressing table, even took measurements of ME so the table won't be to high when I bath baby. And my Mom even called DH her best friend! It's weird, but so cool!

Things started out pretty rough in my family since this was unplanned for us, but my dad has gotten really excited about being a grandpa, and my mom is actually making an effort to get along with people because she has something to lose now, so that's a plus ^_^
