How do I know if my early pregnancy is still going okay?

I'm pretty sure I'm about 5 weeks pregnant right now and I keep feeling small cramps every now and then. I also feel something weird in my lower tummy every time I eat something. I just don't know if I'm doing things right. I'm super paranoid about everything and I just worry that things aren't going okay. How do I know if my pregnancy is still doing okay?

  • This is my first pregnancy, but I have been picking my doc's brain and a couple of close friends on cramping. I'm 6 weeks and have been cramping on and off. The cramping felt worse when I was 4 weeks, but  has become milder. I have nausea, fatigue and have gone up a cup size in breast size. As long as you do not have bleeding, cramps that are bearable are fine. I don't think we have anything to worry about. Congrats ladies and all the best !

  • I think everyone deals with this....and sadly it won't end until you give birth.  The cramps are normal right now, just our bodies making room.  And food is like our best friend and our worst enemy right now.  Hopefully that one will go away after your first trimester.

As for being paranoid, just try to relax a little bit, but if it is really stressing you out, give the doctor a call and ask for an appointment.  They know that first time Mom's are going through new things, and generally will try to help out a little bit!

     Good luck :)

  • I'm 5 weeks today, and the new thing that I've found the last two days is that if I haven't had enough water or haven't eaten in a while, I start to feel more cramps than I otherwise do.

I have freaked out about the cramping too. I've been assured by many that it's totally normal and that I should not worry. Hopefully this helps you feel better :)

  • If you're not bleeding bright red, you're most likely just fine. :-)

  • Cramps are pretty normal right now because everything is stretching and preparing.Try not to worry!

  • There really is nothing you can do to make sure everything is alright with your pregnancy in the early stages.  I almost tried my doppler but knew that would be idiotic!

All you can do is relax and enjoy everyday that you are pregnant.  And I am sorry but even taking a pregnancy test is not a reassurance that everything is ok with your pregnancy.  I took pregnancy tests up until the day we found out our baby no longer had a heartbeat, the test was as dark as it could ever be!  I vowed to never take pregnancy tests again for reassurance bc in the end, the only thing that will give you that is a healthy ultrasound.  I don't mean to scare you, but it's true.  That was a lesson I learned the hard way.

I think cramps are a good sign, so enjoy the feelings when you get them.  I wish I had enjoyed my last pregnancy more instead of worrying constantly, bc my worst fear did come true and I can never get back those 3 months I had with my angel.  Enjoy it, today you are pregnant and you love your baby! :)

  • Try not to worry, try to keep in mind how every person in the world started out exactly as your LO is...safe and sound in the womb of a worried mama!

I see people taking pregnancy tests all the time to confirm...and while I have taken at least 5 both times I was pregnant (within the first few days), that's kind of silly from a purely *how pg tests work* standpoint.  I won't go into details.  Just know that's not a good way to know anything for sure.  If you already have one and want to see another +, by all means...but don't go out and buy one for that reason, please!!

The best way to know is that you had a positive test, and you're not bleeding.  Cramps and twinges are totally normal...lots of growing going on in there!

You're doing great...try not to be worried.  And good luck!

  • I feel this way all the time and overanalyze everything. Even after my ultrasound on Saturday which went perfectly, I am back to worrying...

I know it is worthless to worry, though. I should just pray and hope for the best!
