Mamas of one or more already

What new gear are you going to get for your second?  Obviously we'll buy some clothes if the new baby is a girl, but I've been trying to think about what else we might need, as we already have a ton of stuff.

I think for right now my list is as follows: more/new changing table covers, a swing that plugs in (seriously no more 4a trips to the store to get batteries!  I'm so done with our swing that does not plug in!), a woven wrap (that I just purchased, to wear DS in a rucksack hold while I'm largely pregnant, and then something more secure than the moby for when new baby gets bigger), and a few newborn cloth diapers.

What is on your list?

  • New swing/ bouncer, new bedding because W's will move up with him (my grandma made his quilt), new clothes, newborn cloth diapers, and we are going to refinish all of Wyatt's furniture.  Probably white.

What kind of CDs are you going to get?  We pocket now, but I'm thinking just prefolds with covers?

  • Prefolds.  I don't want to spend the money for newborn pockets because s/he'll only be in them for a couple weeks.

  • Definitely a new Moby, as it'll be winter - in Texas, any excuse to put the baby in something warm is very exciting!

I think I'm just going to do disposables until baby is big enough for the one-size cloth. No point in spending the money...

I am going to make bedding, but it'll be pretty gender-neutral, as this one will be a surprise. I mean, I just delivered 11 months ago and THAT was our "things we need to refresh after the first two" baby.

I'd love a new double stroller, but we so rarely use the one we have, and we really could use the snap-and-go for the first few months, so...

My infant carrier is going to expire in 2013, so I may go ahead and just buy a nice big convertible that will last us a few years.

I'll definitely be making more paci straps, shoes and bibs as the last baby has worn them out somewhat.

  • I got jipped. I gave all my baby things to my SIL and now she is due in Oct. and needs the things more than I do (my Brother and SIL have just moved so they are tight financially). So I need everything. Though I will try to streamline it a bit. So new swing, new bouncer, new freaking everything. Which works out pretty ok. DH is excited to baby shop. This is his first baby, so he wants to do everything like it's his first. What evs.

  • DD's crib converts so the plan was she'd keep it and we'd get a new crib and dresser for #2. I might just get her a new bedset and keep her crib for the new baby. So, we'll need some furniture either way. We need a new infant tub. And, a sit n stand or some double stroller. Everything else we are set on. Unless its a boy, then we will need lots of clothes.

  • Oh I forgot I need a hamper for the baby's room too.  I don't know how we don't have one yet.

  • We plan to move DS into a toddler bed.  We plan to buy a dresser for the baby's room.  We also will need clothes if its a girl.  DS is a January baby, so it will be perfect if its another boy! We also need to get a new swing, the old one is at my parents, for all the other grandchildren to use.  We will get a sit-n-stand and a second camera for our monitor.

  • My youngest will be 8 in six days, so I need everything!  Luckily, I learned from experience that the majority of the stuff isn't necessary.  The main things I need will be clothes, diapers and a car seat.

  • A baby play gym. Always wanted one, but it felt frivolous. :)

Probably refresh some swaddle blankets, DS used the SwaddleMe's and the Velcro is pretty worn. Otherwise, I'm really excited about nursery and clothes shopping. :)

This.  With my first pregnancy, I felt like I needed all this stuff before the baby was even born.  In reality, I never used a lot of the stuff, or I used it when DD was much older.

We will probably need another crib, clothes if the baby isn't a girl, and a dresser. I will probably be investing in cloth diapers this time around also.

  • DS is only 10 months old, so we won't need a lot. New crib, double stroller, some clothes if it is a girl. I never bought a wrap or baby carrier so I'll probably get one for this baby.

  • I really dislike the stroller and high chair that I ended up with first time around (had no idea what I was registering for), so I'm planning to sell the old ones and get new ones. It will be a splurge since this is probably our last baby!

I plan to get a wrap carrier, and some new bedroom decor (once I find out if it's a boy or girl!). Also I never got one of those stroller cozy things, since DS1 was born in April and we didn't need it. This time being due in Dec I probably will! If it's a girl we'll also need some girly clothes.

For me I'll probably get some new nursing bras and tanks, since the originals are super worn out.

Sounds like you need a shower!  And couldn't SIL get (most) of her own stuff at a shower? Hope things work out for you, very generous of you to give all your stuff away when you still need it!

  • DS is only 8 months so we have pretty much everything.  This time I want to get a moby wrap and I picked up a sling already at a consignment sale.

Then we are debating about getting another crib for DS or just moving to a toddler bed.  His converts so we could convert or get a new one.  We will probably get another crib that converts for DS and then keep him in that for a little bit and then convert it but leave the other crib for the new one.

If this one is a girl we will need new clothes.  I also want to get a rock n play this time instead of using the pnp bassinet.  And we will see about the double stroller.

  • New bedding, glider, breast pump and new crib and mattress. That's about it!! Other than little things

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
  • NB cloth diapers, swing that plugs in, possibly a crib (dd is only 9 months so she may not be out of hers when #2 arrives) and clothes. DD was born mid summer so the clothes that I have from her may not work too well for a mid winter baby!

  • We'll need a second video camera for our monitor b/c I'm obsessed with that thing.  And some (not a lot) clothing if it's a girl (we didn't know what our son was, so a lot of the early stuff is pretty gender neutral anyway).

We borrowed our snap n go for LO #1, so I might need to get another one if she wants it back soon.

Our two will share a room, so LO's dresser will become a dresser for the two of them, we'll use a floor bed instead of a crib since our LO currently sleeps in our bed 100% of the time anyway...

I'd really like a woven wrap, sometime soon for the reason PP mentioned above (wearing LO while pregnant).

  • If this one is a boy, we need boy clothes and things for the crib/nursery. I also need NB CDs because I started when A was 4 months (I'll probably do mostly prefolds and covers). I'd also like a wrap - I didn't know how much I would babywear until A got older and we use the Beco all the time. We have a Bjorn but eh - id rather use a wrap in the NB stage. That's all I can think of at this point.

  • My baby is none months and we have excess of so many things already. Three different carriers, TONS of blankets and washcloths, plenty of swaddles, etc. The only things I foresee needing to buy are things that they will need at the same time.

So, a dresser, *maybe* a crib (I'm kind of hoping the first will be ready for a big bed by the time we take the baby out of our room, and in our room they will be in the cradle or PnP), a booster for the older one so the baby can take over the high chair, I'll need a bigger diaper bag, things like that.

Honestly, the thing I'm thinking the most about is a new car. We will probably be in need of something bigger. Not right away, but sometime in the Spring of next year.

  • For our second we had to buy a convertible car seat for DS1, a new crib set, and a double stroller. We had everything else. I also bought more hooded towels since we were going through twice as many and I couldn't keep up with the laundry.

This time around, we have to buy DS2 a convertible crib because he is moving into his brothers room and the new baby will take his crib/furniture. We will need to buy another convertible car seat as well. I think I definitely will be buying a sling wrap for this baby. Also, if it is a girl, we will obviously need girl clothes, but if it a boy, we have plenty of clothes from both of the boys.

  • Crib (DS's converts, so he get's to keep it)

Infant carseat (the one we had for DS expired)

Double stroller (probably... still deciding... DS will be 2.5 when #2 is born)

Clothes (Even if it's another boy, DS was born in June, so most everything is opposite season)

  • (FYI I don't know how much support your LO needs, but mine is 23+ lb and still is very secure in her Moby. I primarily use it when travelling nowadays because she is so independent.. to carry her through the airport and nap her in it in the airplane, etc. Every now and then I'm glad I have it with me.)

     New gear:

We have our master BR on the 1st floor and 2 smaller rooms on the 2nd floor, one of which is our daughter's. We don't want to run up the stairs 5x/night, so initially we'll keep #2 with us. I think we'll get an Arms Reach co-sleeper that can convert to a changing table and (2nd) play yard.

I have gotten a lot of use out of my jogging stroller, so I'll get a double. Haven't decided if I should hold onto the single or sell it when #2 arrives. Looking on Craigslist for a BOB or Schwinn or something like that. I know I'll get about 1 year out of it, so I don't want to spend a fortune, but I do want it to be enjoyable. Test-drove a BOB...ooooh myyyy goodness. I'd rather push that than my single.

    Another diaper trash can

A second camera for our monitor (can have up to four cameras I think? It's a Levana)

Since we borrowed these items last time and had to give them back already: a floor gym and an infant seating device (bouncey seat or bumbo chair)

We already have two highchairs, one conventional and one clip-on. By the time #2 is ready for the clip-on, #1 can be moved to a booster seat.

#2 will take over #1's crib after out-grown bassinet.

Gear for #1: umbrella stroller, booster seat, toddler rail for bed already in room (we inherited a twin bed, and put it in her room for me, basically.)

  • Oh. And obviously, a new car seat. I'll just get the exact same thing we already have. I did a lot of research and it was pretty recent. It's a convertible. DD had no trouble fitting in it when she was born, and I am vehemently opposed to infant carriers. (part of my job is treating babies with flat spots on their heads with helmets)
Lilypie First Birthday tickers Lilypie Second Birthday tickers
  • We're doing 2u2, so we bought a double stroller. That's probably the biggest thing.

We're still debating about buying a second crib. DH is hoping to have DD in a toddler bed when we have #2, but I'm skeptical. Along with that, new crib bedding (if it's another girl), depending on if DD actually gets moved into a toddler bed.

And I think we'll need clothes regardless. If it's a boy---obviously. But even if it's a girl, DD was born in July in the South, and I've given most of her clothes to SIL, who's due with a May baby, because the sizes correlate pretty closely. But this one's due in December, and we'll be further north, so I'm thinking we're going to need lots of warm 0-3 and 3-6 stuff regardless.

And I want a new swing. I'm just not happy with the one we have.

  • Having 2 already, I don't think I need much for #3.

I'm going to get one of those standing things that will attach to my double stroller so if DS1 doesn't want to walk he can use that.  Other than that I think I'm set.
