TTC After a Loss

article I found on Japanese Culture's of miscarriage

I found this great article of a woman's experience while she was in Japan after she had her miscarriage.  It's really great to know that there is a culture that doesn't make you feel shameful of your loss.  We really could learn a thing or two from them about this.  Hope you enjoy the article

  • This was lovely, and some parts very touching...I love that they have a special word for a miscarried baby - water child.  Thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks for posting this.  I had found that article before and read it after my first mc in the fall, but I re-read it because you linked to it here, and I am glad I read it again.  I needed that tonight.

Good find, thank you for sharing. Her description of that connection breaking when she had her miscarriage is haunting. That's exactly how I remember it too.

It's true that we don't have a word for a miscarried or aborted fetus in English. But I think those of us on TB have invented our own; "angel baby". Maybe one day this word will be widely accepted IRL?

  • This is a great article, thank you for sharing. The way she describes the thread breaking is heartbreaking. I felt the exact same thing.
  • What a great read.

The fact that the statues all have a pinwheels in their hands really struck a chord with me. I was going to decorate LO's nursery in pinwheels. I made 50 pinwheels for our big wedding (that we had to cancel), and I was excited when I realized I'd be able to put them to use later. I still have them, and I obviously can't look at 'em without thinking of my babies.

It was a rough road, but Arlo Daniel was born April 1, 2013—and our second rainbow is due October 12, 2014.
  • I really enjoyed reading this.  Thanks.
