Anyone else's LO do this?

So Collin has had his 2 bottom front teeth since he was 6 months. The front tops I think are on their way in next (if I'm remembering the order correctly), and have been for several weeks now. He's been the most miserable for the last week and a half or so; but the last couple of days he's actually started refusing to eat his solids - he either starts screaming bloody murder from the get-go and turns his head in refusal, then eats between screams; or he starts to eat, then starts taking smaller bites, then sort of chokes on it, and ultimately throws up the couple of bites that he's managed to swallow. Either way, we're not getting through more than half of a container. If you give him the spoon though, he'll just sit there and gnaw on it. But then he'll turn around and inhale a 6oz bottle. It primarily happens with "dinner", and he's still on purees so I'm sure it's not a texture/bite-is-too-big/too-hard-to-chew/swallow thing...I'm not sure what to think. Anyone else experience this with their LO when they were teething? It's just a little weird that he would only refuse/gag/choke/puke on his dinner, but not the other 2 meals of the day. Could it be excessive saliva making his tummy upset by the end of the day??

Sorry this got really long - here's a Mojito for making it this far...

  • Sophia has never refused or choke/puke during a meal(it would take a lot for her to pass up food)but right before she cut a tooth she would get weird with solids. She would take the spoonful but moan and grunt while eating it. Like it hurts but she wants to eat anyway. It stopped once the bottoms popped through. Now she's starting to get weird again.

  • G did that...I took him to the pedi and he had an ear infection.  Then the cold came on.  He wanted nothing to do with soilds and very little to do with formula as well.  He is feeling better this week and started eatting again.

  • Still no teeth here but I will definitely sit and have a mojito with you! Cheers!

  • Our pedi is sure that LO's top teeth will be here "any second" now.  He said the same thing about the bottom teeth when LO was about 4 months old.  He got the bottom ones at 8 months.....

So, he may or may not be teething but he recently will only eat yogurt or puffs.  I don't know what that's all about.  He was eating some chunkier foods but this week is refusing things he seemed to love the weeks before.  No advice other than to play around and see if there is at least one food he will eat.

DS started fussing around dinner time like you described. We moved his dinner time up about an hour to an hour & half, and he started eating again. I think he was just getting too tired to want to sit and eat. I don't know if that's the case for you guys, though. It's just a thought.

    Cheers, ladies!

IDK - it's definitely something to think about - thanks for the idea! Though it may be difficult to move it up considering the time I get off of work; by the time I pick him up, and we get home, I'm usually feeding him within 30 minutes of the time we walk in the door as it is, so 7:30p tends to be his dinner time. I'll have to see what I can do to try your suggestion.

  • My LO's two bottom teeth also came in at 6 mos and it was a couple days of not wanting to eat, including BF and bottle.  At 8.5 mos, I believe my LO is on the verge of having her top teeth come in.  She's been fussing for OVER a week, rubbing her mouth, on-and-off eating weirdness and poor naps or overnight sleep... I swear I wouldn't be surprised if four teeth show up.  I hope a tooth pops through soon to explain her discomfort or we'll have to look for other causes.  Odd though: yesterday LO was pushing her cereal away again and again ... I gave her a second bottle (she'd had one an hour earlier) and she sucked it down ... then 15 mins later she finished all her cereal without a fuss.  Wishing your LO well.

  • Ha!  My LO's first top tooth is showing today and another one definitely cresting.  Phew.  So hopefully that explains her recent fussiness and discomfort.  I was so proud to see her 3rd tooth.  Wishing you all well.
