Two Under 2

Baby Monitors w/ 2 under 2

For those of you w/ a toddler & infant, do you have two baby monitors?  We have an angelcare monitor for our first born that we still use (he's 2 years old now).  We continue to use the movement monitor on it because 1) he has food allergies and just in case he was to have an allergic reaction after dinner (he goes to bed right after dinner) we feel better using the movement monitor, 2) in case he crawls out of the crib I like the idea of knowing he escaped for the first time

But I hate to spend another 200 on a second baby monitor for the new baby!  At what age do most people phase out the baby monitor?

Re: Baby Monitors w/ 2 under 2

  • I've kept the monitor off all week so far - DS is 1 year tomorrow.  He's big enough to hear crying in the night now and I'm trying to wean myself off the monitor at the same time so we can move it to #2.

  • My daughter will be 2 when the baby is born.  We have a monitor with 2 cameras.  I will continue to use the monitor for my toddler.  I still like having that piece of mind.  She's still in her crib but we will be trying the toddler bed out before the baby is born.  So, I want to be able to know when she is out of her bed...

  • I have two baby monitors. It's very rare that my 2 year old wakes at night, but when she does I can't hear her without the monitor. The biggest reason I wanted two was for naps. DD1 moved to a toddler bed a few months after DD2 was born and the transition was very smooth for the first month. Then she went on a nap strike for a few weeks and with the monitor I could hear when she was trying to get out of bed and head her off before it got too bad. It's also nice if both are napping to have both monitors so I can work in my craft room in the basement or in the yard.

We will probably keep monitors in both of the girls' rooms until they are able to open the door and come get us in the middle of the night if needed. I just have two audio monitors - a Sony BabyCall and a Safety 1st and that has been enough for us.

This is pretty much what I plan to do.  My son is still in his crib, and I use the monitor during naps and when he goes to bed at night while we are still up.  I'm hoping to pick up a second monitor at a rummage sale soon, but otherwise, I think I'll just buy another Sony BabyCall, which is what we currently have.

  • My daughter just turned 2 and we still use a video monitor. She's been in a toddler bed since she was 14 months so we wanted to keep it to see if/when she got out of bed (luckily she doesn't). We have one summer infant monitor and two receivers - so we can switch back & forth between the two rooms.

  • We used/will use the angel care for the infant but we have a video monitor as well. We have a camera in the nursery and in the boys room. I have to keep the sound part on during the night for ds2 b/c he has sleep apnea and asthma. I have to make sure we hear him if he starts to have issues. I love our new video monitor we just got. It's the motorola and comes with 2 cameras. The parent unit scans between each room every 20 seconds I think. It's a great monitor.

  • We have 2 monitors (Sony Baby Call) There is no way I would feel comfortable not having one in my 2 year olds room. Even though she never wakes during the night. But there is NO way I would hear her if she woke or got sick etc. We are upstairs and I'm an extremely heavy sleeper. I need a monitor. Our home is very old and I wouldn't want her to attempt to try the stairs up to our room in the middle of the night. So I just have two receivers on my night stand. The beautiful thing about these monitors is there is a setting that they don't make any noise unless there is noise in the childs room. They are awesome!!!! We bought ours on Amazon.

  • I have THIS video monitor with 3 camera's (1 for each child)

It's probably a bit over the top but I like to work in the garden or flowerbeds during nap time and I like the security of being able to physically see each child.

It has an intercom where I can talk to each child and it has come in really handy with DS and naptime being able to tell him to settle down and go to sleep without physically going in his room and riling him up.

  • I still use a monitor in my 2 year old's room. Now that she's in a toddler bed, it's nice that I can see when she gets out of bed to play rather than sleeping. We have a monitor that allows you to add up to 4 cameras to it so we have a camera on each kid and just one handheld monitor unit.
